The Department of Biology within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks applications for a Facilities Manager. This position supports the Department supervising and directing the use of the Department’s assigned and shared space and equipment used in those spaces. This position will manage Department of Biology facilities by monitoring daily operations to ensure satisfactory functioning, resolve emerging problems with utilities/scientific equipment and act as a departmental representative working with other University organizations. The Facilities Manager will negotiate, establish and maintain contracts and agreements with vendors for service and repair of departmental equipment. The Facilities Manager will also act as a departmental point of contact for inquiries regarding facilities assignments, renovations, utilization and scheduling. This position will also coordinate with UNR Environmental Health and Safety Department (EH&S) to ensure user compliance with policies and laws regarding use, storage and disposal of regulated substances.
The Department of Biology annually expends over several million dollars in extramural research funds from activities that are dependent upon the physical facilities and programmatic support overseen by the Facilities Manager. Facilities used for these purposes are spread over 6 buildings. There are nearly 300 rooms used for research, instructional labs, offices, research support, and meetings. Total area of these spaces is more than 70,000 square feet.
Schedule: The typical work schedule is weekdays 8am to 5pm. Emergent issues may occasionally require evening or weekend work.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
Related Experience: Research or instructional lab
Preferred Qualifications: familiarity with laboratory operations policies and procedures, construction project administration and management, knowledge of building systems operations (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
