Job Description Summary:
Washington and Lee University invites applications for open positions in the Student Counseling Center. We seek doctoral level therapists licensed or license-eligible to practice in Virginia to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to a mission of service, training, and engagement, in promoting a welcoming, affirming, and safe therapeutic environment for all students.The University Counselor II provides psychotherapy to assist students with a wide range of counseling concerns and participate in outreach activities in service to the broader campus community. Counselors also work in consultation and collaboration with constituents across the university, including Student Health Services, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, and numerous campus student clubs and organizations.

Essential Functions:
Provides individual and group therapy to undergraduate and law students regarding a wide range of presenting concerns.
Participates in the professional activities of the department and division in service to the University. These may include outreach activities such as developing and presenting of training, education and health promotion programs for the University community, serving on University committees or advisory groups, attending meetings that address student life issues and other activities that support the mission of the department and the division of Student Affairs.
Attends/participates in weekly clinical team meetings for case management and professional development. If licensure is in progress, completes required weekly clinical supervision until full licensure is achieved.
Adheres to ethical standards of practice in provision of services, including but not limited to timely and thorough documentation of clinical contacts in the electronic health record, upholding privacy standards, maintenance of continuing education, risk assessments, and collaboration with colleagues and constituents.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or Counseling/Clinical Psychology and appropriate licensure/license eligible in Virginia within one year. Candidates not yet licensened in Virginia are eligible for hire as University Counselor with promotion to University Counselor II upon licensure.
Two years of clinical experience.
Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Ability to work effectively as a team member within the organizational structure of the Student Health and Counseling Services and the University community.
Counselors are expected to be available for after-hours emergency/crisis coverage as needed.
Experience in focused brief psychotherapy interventions.
Experience leading or co-leading process-oriented psychotherapy groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in psychological and developmental needs of the college population
Experience and/or clinical interest helping students heal from racial trauma and race-based stress.
Schedule: The role will be offered with a full-time 12-month work schedule, or full-time 10-month work schedule based upon candidate preference and center needs. Incumbents who work full-time 10-months begin in mid-August and work through mid-June.
Minimum Pay: Salary commensurate with experience. Minimum pay is $72,000 for a full-time 12-month University Counselor II position.
Salary is prorated by months worked for 10-month, full-time offers.
