Underwriter:
Under the direction of the Senior Lead Underwriter, theUnderwriter will review applications submitted for adherence to internal underwriting guidelines and standards. Make recommendations for approvals based on identity validation, financial viability, compliance, and business requirements. Have the ability to balance business enablement with risk tolerance to make solid business decisions.
Responsibilities:
§ Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements related to payment processing and risk management, such as PCI-DSS, KYC, AML, Enhanced Due Diligence, etc.
§ Validate documents provided with new applications using online publications and resources provided.
§ Review and analyze credit and financial reports, business as well as personal, financial statements, balance sheets, tax returns, etc.
§ Prepare a written summary based on the analysis of applicant/customer information by industry standards.
§ Determine the level of risk exposure and MCC classification.
§ Apply appropriate underwriting criteria to applications following the sponsoring bank(s) credit policy to ensure financial exposure is appropriately mitigated.
§ Utilize skills in problem identification, analysis, and resolution using available resources to accomplish duties.
§ Review business applications to make sure all the necessary criteria are present, both on the paperwork and website.
§ Periodically review new and existing business with Risk Management to mitigate risk exposure.
§ Assist with conducting audits of completed files.
§ Assist with creating, maintaining, and enforcing Corporate and Merchant Acquiring Policies and Procedures.
§ Assist with periodic internal and external audits.
§ Translate analysis results and communicate findings as meaningful business recommendations to Management and acquiring clients as necessary.
§ Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
§ 2+ years of Underwriting experience in the Pre-Paid, ACH, or Merchant Services/Acquiring industry.
§ 1+ years of Risk Management experience in a financial, credit card, or merchant services environment.
§ Knowledge of Card Brand rules and merchant acquiring industry risk trend experience.
§ Analytical mindset with an independent critical investigative approach to problem-solving.
- Must possess the ability to think critically, holistically, and quantitatively as well as the ability to teach that mindset to others.
§ Capable of making quick, sound decisions with the ability to justify recommendations.
§ Work well in a fast-paced environment both individually and as part of a team.
§ Excellent organizational skills and an ability to multi-task and independently prioritize workload.
§ Proficient with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel
§ Aptitude to learn new software programs and job functions
§ Possess the initiative to suggest and implement new ideas.
§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
§ Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential material and information ethically and professionally.
§ Ability to take ownership of own initiatives while always putting the goals of the team and company first.
§ Self-motivated, conscientious, and team oriented.
