About the Role:
The ABL Underwriter spreads financial statements, analyzes loan requests, assesses and tracks compliance of borrowing base certificates and availability and prepares credit approval forms for the Bank's largest and most complex commercial loan requests. Financial analysis includes ratio and trend analysis as well as the creation of projections and detailed analysis of cash flows.
This is a senior level commercial lending position for an individual with a degree in business administration or economics looking for a career in credit underwriting, credit administration or lending. The position will include advanced training in accounting, finance, and regulatory compliance, in addition to bank-specific products and policies. The Asset-based Lending Underwriter position may progress within the role or to other banking positions.

Duties of the position are performed in-person and include:
  • Spreading financial statements, performing cash flow analysis, reviewing collateral, and underwriting commercial loan requests.
  • Focus on the largest, most complex loan requests.
  • Preparing credit approval requests and submitting them for approval by executives and loan committees.
  • Discussing perceived credit weaknesses or potential credit problems with the Underwriting Manager or other lending managers.
  • Reviewing credit requests for conformance to regulatory guidelines and Bank policies.
  • Testing and tracking covenant compliance.
  • Uploading, tracking and analyzing borrowing bases. Assessing borrowing base eligibility. Ensuring they are received in a timely manner.
  • Working closely with commercial lenders to ensure accurate and up-to-date credit files.
  • Contacting clients to request financial information and other documents related to loan requests. This may include accompanying lenders on site visits and client calls.
  • Attending training courses, enhancing knowledge of credit and lending topics, and performing industry and/or geographic analysis.
  • Guiding and mentoring Credit Analyst I and Credit Analyst II team members, and documenting procedures.
  • Engaging in and leading special projects pertaining to Asset-based Lending.
  • Performing general clerical duties including filing, copying, data entry and scanning.

Requirements
Education:
  • BA Business Administration with a preferred concentration in Finance or Accounting.

Prior Experience:
  • 4+ years related experience in commercial banking and/or minimum 3+ years direct experience as a Credit Analyst.
  • Participation in a formal bank credit training program highly desired.

Requisite Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to enter information into financial software and bank systems with a very high level of accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance topics and familiarity with financial statements and tax returns.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and software programs, such as MS Excel, MS Word and Adobe Acrobat, as well as other programs specific to the banking industry.
  • Ability to work effectively at a fast pace with competing interests and due dates, while maintaining timely turnaround time on credit requests.
  • Proficient in bank software and core systems.
  • Familiarity with typical loan documents such as borrowing base certificates, real estate appraisals, covenant compliance certificates, etc.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision and independently solve complex issues.

Physical Demands:
This is an onsite position at our Cupertino branch. Work is performed in a bank office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Use of personal vehicle for business travel when necessary.
