Job Description
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the College of Engineering (COE) at the Ohio State University invites applications for an Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2.
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 role in the Advising Office of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) works with undergraduate students interested in Computer Science as a major or minor. CSE is the home department for the CSE major, two Computer and Information Science (CIS) majors (BS and BA) offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, the CIS minor, and the Computational Science minor.
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 supports student success by providing one-on-one advising to students regarding appropriate program and degree requirements, including admission to the major, course planning within the major or minor, general education requirements (CSE only), and other scheduling concerns; University policies and procedures; and campus resources. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 also teaches the survey course for pre-CSE students, assists with orientation in the College of Engineering, and refers students to appropriate offices for financial assistance, mental health, wellness, internships, and other services. Other activities may include planning, implementation, or completion of special projects as determined by the Manager of Academic Advising, either individually or with other advisors in the CSE Advising Office, and opportunities for professional development and growth.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3-6 years of Advising or related experience. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines and engages in discussions with stakeholders. Able to readily articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies, including specialty areas. Able to assess a student's potential for success in a field of study and make appropriate referrals. Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc. Able to apply theory to advising practice. Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed. Able to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate student's personal/cultural identity. Effectively builds relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Discusses relevance of program to student's goals.
Pay range: $45,000 - $50,000
