Tutor Listing (Part Time Position)
Wayne Country Day School seeks a passionate and dedicated Reading Tutor with expertise in Orton-Gillingham instructional methods to support students in developing strong reading skills. They will be responsible for tutoring students in alignment with our school’s mission of preparation and formation of students for the world beyond college.
The ideal candidate possesses a passion for teaching, a team-oriented approach to collegiality, enthusiasm for supporting and strengthening learning, strong interpersonal skills, and a deep knowledge of child development.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement engaging lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum, philosophy, and mission.
- Provide one-on-one or small group reading instruction to students of various ages and reading levels.
- Utilize Orton-Gillingham methods and other evidence-based techniques to develop personalized learning plans for each student.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment to enhance students' confidence and motivation.
- Communicate regularly with families about curriculum and student progress.
- Utilize and maximize regular professional development opportunities.
- Update curriculum and materials as needed.
- Participate in the school community including additional meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Stay current on best practices in reading instruction and professional development opportunities.
- Fully trained in Orton-Gillingham methods
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a consistent tutoring schedule.
- Have experience with diverse instructional strategies.
- Ability to integrate technology effectively.
Qualifications:
- Training in Orton Gillingham or an OG-based program such as Wilson, Slingerland, TakeFlight, etc., is preferred.
- Knowledge of dyslexia, ADHD, other learning differences, and strategies to support neurodiverse students.
- Experience teaching Orton Gillingham or an OG-based program to students with dyslexia.
- Preferably 3 years of teaching experience, with a focus on reading instruction.
- An undergraduate degree is required. A graduate degree in education and/or a relevant discipline is preferred.
- Salary is dependent on experience.
