Transportation - Load Planner 2Nd Shift

Central Steel and Wire Company, a leading distributor and processor of metals with years of history, is seeking a Load Planner to join our team in Chicago, IL. CS&W sells and processes over 70,000 metal products, providing customized metal solutions to our customers.
Background:
This position will be responsible for designing cost efficient routing with a high level of Customer Service to ensure on-time delivery to customer delivery dates.
Description of Job/Tasks:
Essential functions: Primary responsibility is to analyze transportation data to provide lean, cost effective solutions to ensure on-time delivery to our customers and minimal expense. A Load Planner will analyze shipments to create a work plan to meet customer expectation while minimizing asset use mileage while maximizing route stops and load weight.
Job Duties to include:
• Responsible for producing day-to-day transportation plans to meet delivery dates utilizing a routing software (OTM and SAP).
• Identify shipping opportunities for improved performance such as: truckload multi-stops, consolidated shipments, etc
• Perform methodical data analysis of plan to maximize asset use and service requirements and reduce cost.
• Respond to changing needs of customers by immediate response and changes to transportation plan
• Communicate results professionally to appropriate personnel including sales and operations
• Create/maintain reporting on transportation goals
• Identify and resolve carrier performance issues such as: missed loads, stops pick ups, etc...
• Carrier/driver review for performance and cost savings
• Track and trace of shipments as necessary
• Lead the continuous process improvement efforts by identifying high impact areas and executing projects for improvement
• Other tasks as assigned
Job Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a transportation role
• Problem solving skills
• Computer skills required (OTM/SAP experience a plus)
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple tasks
• Track record of self-motivated, results-orientated team player
• Professional communication skills to internal and external customers
