Official Position Description:
Manages multiple, complex construction projects in Construction (e.g., new location, new alignment, multi-lane &/or bi-directional reconstruction & major structures) under the general supervision of a registered professional engineer; reviews design of all necessary changes to project(s) & ensures construction methods for all aspects of project(s) will achieve plan & specification intent. Performs engineering calculations (e.g., reviews cost analysis, force accounts, & reviews critical path management progress schedules); tracks project submittals from contractors. Acts as lead worker by providing work direction & training to lower-level Transportation Engineers, project engineers, & support personnel (e.g., reviews & approves construction diaries, inspection & material test reports; ensures all documentation is completed to meet finalization goal). Reviews & analyzes project plans using a computer & related software (e.g., computer-aided design & drafting (CADD)) to determine plan intent & discover errors & omissions in order to ensure contract compliance while lessening the cost & delays resulting from plan errors & discusses change requests with contractors as needed. Reviews design &/or designs all necessary changes to projects. Analyzes, prepares cost justification & enters change orders using a computer & related software (e.g., SiteManager).
Assists Contractor Compliance Officers (CCOs) in ensuring Commercially Useful Function (CUF) requirements are met (e.g., fills out forms & ensures completed forms are returned to assigned CCO). Performs project finalization for projects which have been involved with the contract administration or as otherwise directed by supervisor.
Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor (e.g., attends training seminars; provides training at construction schools; represents department at Public Inquiry Meetings; testifies in court on matters related to project).
Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. engineering related experience.
-Or Valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
