Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Director of Training & Development, the Training & Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the professional and leadership development of IYT's Mentor Fellows and staff to deliver high caliber service and support to partner schools and community organizations. The Training & Development Specialist will support the design, content, operations, and logistical aspects of training. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating ongoing Saturday Leadership Development Days (LDDs), career networking, professional development, and opportunities for Mentor Fellows to reflect on their service. The Training & Development Specialist will support a variety of special projects and events. This position is ideal for someone who has excellent project management skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is interested in gaining experience in Training & Development at a high-impact education non-profit. The ideal candidate is a proactive, organized, creative problem solver with a passion for learning.


Responsibilities

  • Use instructional design skills to create engaging, relevant, and differentiated learning experiences for all team members 
  • To support the application of learning, the Training & Development Specialist provides spaces for Mentor Fellows to engage in reflection, problem-solving, and receive feedback
  • Continually assesses learning and coaching quality through analysis of both quantitative and qualitative measures
  • Provides insights, identifies responsive resources and learning content, and refines the overall work of the Training & Development Framework at IYT
  • The Training & Development Specialist 's responsibilities will be split between in-person school-based (field) and office-based work
  • Perform in-person on-site coaching to Program Directors and Program Managers around the development of coaching skills
  • Provide on-site coaching office hours to Mentor Fellows and program team 
  • Assist the Director of Training & Development in refining and implementing IYT's Training and Development program offerings and opportunities for all members 
  • As assigned, coordinate and facilitate Saturday Leadership Development Days for Mentor Fellows at least once a month in collaboration with Program Leadership
  • Develop and expand IYT's Workforce Development Program to ensure Mentor Fellows gain valuable skills and exposure to the workforce or post-graduate opportunities following the completion of their service year.
  • By request, support the development of school team/department-based training and resources
  • Utilize data analysis and research to inform and improve T&D work; Track Mentor Fellow attendance and completion of all training and professional development 
  • Complete and prepare monthly to quarterly grant reports associated with T&D work
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Leadership team to analyze student assessment data, Mentor Fellow development data, and Program Manager coaching data
  • Intentionally engage in collaborative work across departments, sites, and external facilitators/vendors to inform T&D work
  • Other special projects and administrative tasks, as needed


Qualifications

  • Experience in instructional design, training, and coaching
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Capacity to work both collaboratively and independently
    Ability to hold high expectations for self and others
  • Proficient in active listening and conveying thoughts and ideas clearly
    Strong attention to detail and proven organizational and project management skills and ability to handle competing deadlines
  • Thrives in diverse, high energy, and entrepreneurial environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong public speaking skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships with diverse peers and external partners
  • Savvy with technology and willingness to learning new tools 

 

Desired Experience

  • Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred) 
  • At least 2 years of experience providing training and professional development support in a non-profit or education setting
  • Internal candidates should have at least 1.5 to 2 full years of experience as a Program Manager.


Schedule

Normal working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Occasional work after regularly scheduled hours and on some weekends is expected. Some travel will be required.


Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time position. The salary range is $66,560 - $72,000 per year per year and is commensurate with experience. IYT offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k option, life insurance, 2 week of accrued vacation, up to 3 weeks paid time off during Spring, Fall and Winter breaks, and mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.
