Responsible for the proper location, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Traffic Signals, Traffic Signal systems, and managing Lake County's Intelligent Transportation System's (ITS) plans and schematics.
Daily tasks may include optimization of signal timings and coordination plans; reviewing Traffic Signal studies; monitoring the County's Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measure system, reviewing Intersection Design Studies (IDS) and intersection improvement plans; and reviewing and performing intersection and system Traffic Signal capacity analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND HAZARDS OF THE POSITION:
Requires light work involving standing or walking in the field on occasion, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular basis, and moderate dexterity in operating machinery, tools, or office equipment
Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am - 4:30pm. Alternative work schedules are available including varying start times and some remote work opportunities.

- Reviewing Traffic Signal studies

- Further expand the County's investment in ITS technology
- Testing and monitoring new Traffic Signal adaptive operations
- Partner with agencies and organizations nationwide to enhance operations.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Minimum of two years of engineering experience
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license issued from the State of Illinois
Valid driver's license preferred - Knowledge of Traffic Signal systems and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM) preferred
- Requires possession of a license denoting registration as an Engineer-in-Training under the Illinois Professional Engineering Act
