How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Tools Engineering Director in our Mission Control organization, you will be essential in providing enterprise services to ensure high levels of product availability for the customers and partners of American Express. This role is critical to ensure Mission Control can continue to evolve and improve our services by providing our engineers with effective tools. Key responsibilities may include:

  • Creating/ Enhancing Tools providing Observability. Self-healing, etc.
  • Support tooling team to evolve as engineers and meet deliverables.
  • Evolving Automation Framework by bringing in existing automations and standardizing.
  • Collaborate with other Leaders to define ongoing roadmap.
  • Define/ design new Tools and solutions enabling Mission Control to deliver our services.
  • Engage with industry partners to look for recent trends and opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field. 8+ years of successful engineering and deployment of enterprise-grade technology assets sophisticated product environment.

  • Advanced engineering skill with multifaceted experience; able to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Hands-on coding experience with different technology products or programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, ES6, React, node.js, Typescript, Webpack, etc.)
  • Ability to construct APIs using innovative techniques and standard processes (REST, JSON, XML, etc.)
  • Experience writing and maintaining tools and scripts to support automation and operations.
  • Proven ability to identify self-healing and automation opportunities, build and implement solution.
  • Strong analytical & critical thinking skills
  • Ability to effectively interpret technical and business objectives and challenges and articulate solutions
  • Industry knowledge of current and upcoming trends in the space of Observability, self healing, AIOps and automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with continuous integration/deployment in an Agile Framework covering the aspect of design development and testing (SDLC)
  • Experience on Cloud deployments Red Hat OpenShift
  • Knowledge of relevant business domain (such as banking and payments technologies)
  • Platform engineering knowledge (e.g. Payments/Merchant services/Ecommerce/Supply chain management platforms)
  • Are comfortable working in an environment based on Agile development methodologies and DevOps principles.

Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
