Tool Technician – CNC Tool Rebuild
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Base Rate Range of $22-$32 (DOE)

We are looking for an individual who can use their mechanical aptitude and attention to detail to become a top-notch rebuilder of VDI tool holders for our CNC lathes. The individual in this role will test rotating tool holders to determine their actual state. If deemed in need of rebuild, they will disassemble the tool, evaluate the internal components and rebuild the tool using precision measuring equipment and tools. This individual will install bearings using proper preload, grease internal components as required, and reassemble the unit according to assembly prints and documents. They will then test the finished assembly to ensure only first quality tools make it back into production. What You’ll Be Doing as a Tool Technician – CNC Tool Rebuild:
Supports complex tooling activities including tools required to rebuild rotating tool holders.
- Maintain the work area and all tools required to rebuild rotating tool holders.
- Use and read dial indicators, test indicators & height gauges (standard & metric).
- Use vibration or other analysis equipment to determine condition of tool holders.
- Identify, install and understand differences between various types of bearings and gears.
- Read complex mechanical drawings/blue prints.
- Pull and press various types of bearings.
- Set, understand and measure bearing pre-load and gear backlash.
- Grind/install spacers and shims.
- Measure radial and axial runout using various measurement methods.
- Evaluate rotating tool holders relative to pre-determined standard. After rebuild, evaluate the tool using the same standard.
- Escalate any non-rebuildable tools to MRO team for replacement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experiences You’ll Need as a Tool Technician – CNC Tool Rebuild:
- An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
- Thorough knowledge of tooling practices and applications.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Understanding and use the standards of precision assembly.
- Experience using the machinist handbook documentation for bearing and gear selection.
- Ability to provide coaching and work direction to less experienced team members.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized inventory systems.
Work Environment for a Tool Technician – CNC Tool Rebuild:
Work takes place in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and chemicals. Ability to use PPE. Ability to stand or sit for long periods. Good manual dexterity, fine motor skills, visual acuity, and ability to use full range of motion. Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds with assistance.
