Work directly for a Hartford County, CT manufacturer of stampings, machined components and assemblies.
Tool & Die Maker:
Primary Position Objectives:
To effectively support operations by maintaining and implementing systems and programs with regard to tooling and machine maintenance to support production schedules, continuous improvements to the quality, cost, and lead-time of goods and services provided to the customers.
Position Responsibilities:
Description of Duties
* Set-up - Trouble shoot & Maintenance of Secondary Tooling including but not limited to First piece quality submission.
* Follow process for documenting Tool History and Set-up information
* Build secondary tooling for limited production runs.
* Fabricate fixtures - gages & open tooling as needed to meet low volume part production.
* Alert Supervisor when there is a need for - Machine Maintenance & Tool Maintenance on Production tooling.
* Assist in the Standardization of Tooling Component Inventory
* Alerts Supervisor on updates and corrections needed on job travelers for operation changes/additions
Department Goals * 100% on time per confirmed schedule.
* 100% production rate.
* Zero customer returns.
* Zero past due.
* 100% attendance.
Lean Initiatives * Assists in development & implementation of Lean Projects.
* Observes company processes and makes recommendations for improvement.
* Participates in Lean Projects and SDWT"s
Other * Maintains adherence to company policies, environmental and safety standards as well as good housekeeping standards.
* May be required to assist or otherwise instruct other personnel.
* Performs other duties as may be required.
* Attendance is an essential function of the job.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
* Minimum 5 years experience in Component/Tooling Fabrication,
* Trouble Shooting Tooling and Repairing Blank & Forming Tooling.
* Set-up - Trouble shooting Production of Secondary Blank & Form presses/tools (60T-176T).
* CT approved (apprenticeship completed) journeyperson preferred
* Ability to read - understand blue prints (GDT) as needed for production manufacturing.
* Working knowledge and practical experience with the use of statistical process control in production environments.
* Working knowledge of ISO quality standards and practical experience
* with the use of statistical process control in a production environment.
* An understanding of Manufacturing Engineering - Quality Engineering - Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and its components (i.e. Kaizen, Kanban, SMED, 5S, etc.)
* Familiar with principles of concurrent engineering and design for manufacturing and assembly.
* Experience with production standards, cost of quality and manufacturing methods.
* Detail & Task driven work ethic.
Physical Requirements
* Visual ability (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
* Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work.
* Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
