Job Description
Responsible for Tool & Die work and product development to achieve safe, efficient and economical production within established manufacturing costs; and to maintain the highest standards of quality and volume requirements, while bringing exciting new products to the market.
Responsibilities include:
• Ability to create tools, special machinery or multi-stage transfer, progressive and prototype die(s) that meets customer’s requirements and expectations
• Assist and advise others to resolve die problems and help implement corrective action when troubleshooting dies
• Ensure productivity, quality and safety goals are achieved
• Follow accurate production and design standards
• Ensure that maintenance efforts are completely integrated into and always in support of operational objectives
• Assist in development and implementation of procedures and controls to promote efficient lean operations of the organization and ensure the groups follow those procedures and controls.
• Provides insight for new product research and development, including prototypes, design plans/drawings and cost savings solutions
• Ensure that products shipped meet or exceed company and industry standards, tolerances, and quality requirements
• Interact and communicate with customers, as needed.
• Ensure attainment of business objectives and production schedules while insuring product quality standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations and address customer’s concerns and ideas
• Ensure the completion of all paperwork, records, documents, etc.
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Journeyman Tool and Die Maker of metal stamping dies and have knowledge of the metal stamping process as well as trouble-shooting dies and die repair
• Demonstrate good judgment in prioritizing, expediting, investigating and resolving problems and issues
• Able to handle multiple tasks
• Strong team leadership skills and an ability to set goals, accomplish objectives, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities a must
• Knowledge of Safety practices and adherence to established safety policies, procedures and practices
• Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as analytical skills
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to make quick decisions
• Excellent equipment troubleshooting skills
• Experience with Microsoft PC based systems; Autocad/Solidworks experience is a plus.
• Experience in metal stamping presses in a manufacturing production environment
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
• Requires a high school education or equivalent.
• Intermediate Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to design all types of dies, fixtures and prototypes.
• Prior manufacturing experience, in a non-production environment, useful.
Language Skills:
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write standard documentation.
• Ability to effectively communicate with managers, vendors, customers, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerances, proportions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Major challenges:
• Designs must be thorough and accurate.
• Troubleshoot tooling to meet part tolerances.
• Build a quality tool in a timely manner.
• Maintaining job profitability.
• Working with many different personalities and customers (both internal and external).
• Maintaining continuous quality control and process improvement in the methods used to create products.
• Must be able to multi-task several main issues at one time.
