GENERAL FUNCTION: Oversee assigned Toddler program. Provide a safe, nurturing, learning environment for all children.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in related field with at least 12 credits in Early Child Education or related field and 1 year experience teaching in a ECC environment.
- AA Degree or CDA AND 2 years teaching experience in an ECC environment – required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification required
Responsibilities:
General:
- Understand and support the Mission of the YMCA.
- Ensure health and safety of each child.
- Possess the ability to understand the needs of all children.
- Set up room with specific program areas/centers
- Ensure program classroom is clean, organized and meets the needs of the children.
- Interacts positively with children, parents, co-workers, and YMCA administration.
- Deal with any child’s behavioral issues or problems within the YMCA philosophy
- Support the YMCA, Center Director and co-workers
- Present self as an appropriate role model in all interactions.
- Understand and follow the YMCA policy regarding outside employment
- Participate in budget review and fundraising. Assist Center director is any ordering needed for classroom.
- Hand in all paperwork by required deadline
- Any other job duties requested by the Center Director
Teaching:
- Create and implement curriculum / monthly plans with assistant teachers to be reviewed by Center Director. These must include mandatory activities that teach about YMCA core values.
- Ensure that the curriculum includes activities and learning objectives that meet developmental checkpoints for toddlers in gross motor, fine motor, language and speech, cognitive skills and self-help skills
- Teach basic skills such as color, shape, personal hygiene, and social skills.
- Help support parents and toddlers during potty training
- Evaluate children and participate in parent/ child conferences one per year.
Staffing:
- Assist Director with annual performance appraisals on teacher assistants.
- Follow YMCA discipline procedures for staff, documenting as needed. Inform Director about any issues or concerns.
- Assist director in maintaining staff schedule
Risk Management
- Follows all YMCA Risk Management & Abuse Prevention policies and procedures.
- Follows all YMCA policies.
- Complete daily health check records.
Professional Development-
- Attend monthly scheduled staff meetings (training and to prep monthly plans)
- As needed attend full day staff training
