Summary:
The role of this Pharmacy Technician is to assist in bridging the gap between prescribers and pharmacy by eliminating the need for providers and support staff to process prior authorizations as well as improving patient access to medication for the Hemophilia Treatment Center and Ryan White 340B programs. This Pharmacy Technician will complete medication Prior Authorizations and Patient Assistance Programs, ensuring patient access to prescribed medications and drug accountability for drug replacement programs and manufacturer assistance programs in compliance with hospital, state, and federal requirements. The technician has a high level of autonomy working directly with patients, prescribers, payers, and other members of the healthcare team.
This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $1,500 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:
1. Maintain current knowledge of service line applicable regulations and external support services.
2. Proactively identify and analyze opportunities for intervention and seek solutions to customer concerns encountered both inside and outside of department.
3. Utilize internally developed systems, the electronic health record (EPIC) and commercial vendor software to document and track patient eligibility, prescriptions, patient communications and program enrollment.
4. Document and communicate findings to the patient, provider, and pharmacies per internal operational standards in a timely and professional manner.
5. Provide support to develop and utilize processes that improve operational workflow to positively impact patient care and optimize clinical processes.
6. Respond to and resolve pharmacy related inquiries from members, clients, providers, or pharmacies related to medications/treatments.
7. Assist in training for new employees and pharmacy learners.
8. This Pharmacy Technician will primarily be based out of their assigned specialty clinic and will support medication prior authorizations and patient assistance for various patient populations
9. Establish clinic, pharmacy, and patient relationships conducive to effective patient care
10. Receive referrals to complete medication prior authorizations from clinic staff, providers, and patients
11. Verify prescription insurance benefits and/or medical benefits are currently active for patients
12. Coordinates and assists the clinic financial care counselors and social workers in identifying eligible patients
13. Performs regular Pharmacy Technician operations responsibilities as needed.
14. Other duties as appropriate for this position

Education Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED.Completion of an academic Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. • CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Two years of Pharmacy Technician experience required.
  • o Prior authorization and patient/financial assistance experience strongly preferred.
  • o EPIC experience strongly preferred
