LOCATION: 1 Center Street, Folly Beach, SC

SALARY: $70,000-75,000 per year with annual bonus opportunities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Engineer takes charge of the entire engineering department, leading the team as they complete various projects. The Chief Engineer works alongside other engineers and technicians, approving designs, calculating costs, negotiating contracts, and executing plans safely and efficiently.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:.

  • Prioritize, plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the engineering department staff.

  • Oversee the maintenance tasks, work orders and special projects ensuring timely and accurate completion.

  • Respond to guest's maintenance needs promptly and ensure guests receive professional, efficient prompt and courteous service to hotel standards.

  • Maintain the physical appearance and operational efficiency of the hotel including physical. mechanical, electrical, plumbing etc.

  • Installation & maintenance of all equipment related to HVAC, ETAC, Water treatment, Fire Safety etc.

  • Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment for the hotel including repair and service records.

  • Prepare reports as required by the Housekeeping Manager and General Manager.

  • Ensure that materials, equipment and tools are kept in a clean and safe environment.

  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness and safety aspects of all mechanical equipment rooms.

  • Attend all Facility Management/Property meetings as required, passing on necessary information to the maintenance team in regular staff meetings.

  • Ensure the proper use and periodic maintenance of all equipment.

  • Perform daily and weekly property document inspections.

  • Ensure property, grounds, and work areas are maintained to standard and that all safety equipment and conditions are to code.

  • Establish and maintain department equipment and supply inventory levels appropriate to property requirements

  • Provide training to staff on supplies, inventory, maintenance and ordering procedures.

  • Train engineering department staff on correct maintenance procedures and assists in repairs as needed.

  • Maintain, monitor and test hotel's emergency systems

  • Discuss with GM / Owner / Department heads on maintenance status and inspection reports.

  • Develop, implement, and direct all emergency programs.

  • Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.

  • Coordinate with the equipment suppliers for any outstanding issues.

  • Responsible for quality service, meeting/exceeding financial goals, short and long-term planning and day-to-day operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees all maintenance staff

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, or abilities.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience. 3 years of supervisory or manager experience in the engineering hotel department. Previous guest relations training.

Skills:

  • Must have a good understanding of the English language.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor.

  • Compute mathematical calculations.

  • Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy. Prioritize and organize.

  • Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.

  • Follow directions thoroughly.

  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

  • Work with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude and restore morale to a team

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to input and access information in the property management system/computers.

  • Ascertain departmental training needs and provide such training.

  • Direct performance of staff and follow up with corrections when needed.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Exert physical effort in lifting/transporting at least 50 pounds.

  • Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.

  • Must be able to reach above head and shoulder height to perform job duties.

  • Must be able to stand and exert well paced mobility or up to 8-hours in length.

  • Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.

  • Must be able to work in hazardous conditions with an attention to maintaining safety standards.

  • Must be able to spend long hours standing, sitting, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Must be willing to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, industrial settings, and construction sites.

Work Environment:

Often wear protective attire, such as work gloves, hard hats, leather aprons, back support, and sturdy boots. Usually work indoors, but may on occasion work outdoors repairing foundations and exteriors. Work in hazardous situations or with hazardous equipment weekly. Are often exposed to machine sounds and noises that are distracting and uncomfortable. Work with contaminants often such as oils, solvents, and paints. May be exposed to very hot or cold temperatures weekly. Enter cramped workplaces monthly that require getting into awkward positions. Are sometimes in high places such as roofs or on ladders. Work in conditions of bright or inadequate lighting weekly. May work near others.
