POSITION SUMMARY:
Functions as the Strategic Leader of the hotel’s Engineering department. Position has overall responsibility for building and facility maintenance and protection, grounds landscaping and maintenance, guest and associate satisfaction and the financial performance of the department. Position oversees the development and implementation of departmental strategies and ensures implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives. The position ensures engineering operations meets the brand’s target, customer needs, ensures associate satisfaction, and maximizes the financial performance of the department. Ensures long term asset protection, assist in effectively managing capital expenditures to maximize the return on investment to the owner and Newport Hospitality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licensing:
o High School Diploma or equivalent
o Progressive experience in hospitality Engineering or Facility Management, with at least five years of experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a hotel.
o Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and teach engineering best practices to hotel management and property operations staff.
o Competent in the use of computer-based systems, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
o Experience with computerized maintenance management is a plus
o Familiarity with accounting, CAPEX, contract, and property management systems a plus.
o Certified Pool Operator or able to be certified within six months.
o Licenses or certifications in a specific trade is a plus.
o Possess the ability to read and use blueprints, diagrams, operations manuals and manufacturer’s specifications
o The ability to demonstrate basic technical knowledge of maintenance through an examination.
o Hotel Engineering, housekeeping, and food service operations.
o Budgeting and cost control.
o Safety and security standards for hotels, guests and employees.
o Ability to consistently support and execute corporate programs, policies, standards, and procedures in a hotel.
o Ability to effectively motivate and train existing and new employees in the Engineering Operations.
o Excellent at managing priorities, heavy workloads, and substantial job-related task.
o Ability to listen, and to actively comprehend what others are saying.
o Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, plans, and conclusions.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
o Ensure that the hotel’s maintenance and upkeep standards meet NHG, Brand, and Guest standards.
o To proactively follow specific departmental procedures in performing repair, maintenance, alteration, and installation work in a safe and neat manner.
o Comply with the latest insurance, Local County, State and Federal government codes, laws and requirements.
o Each associate is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management which the associate is capable of performing.
o Initiate training of new department associates on equipment and the daily functions of the hotel.
o Responsible for identifying and scheduling repairs.
o Responsible for operating various hand and power tools in a safe manner.
o Follow safe working practices and conditions within your department.
o To function as a member of the emergency organization team and become an expert on all life safety systems.
o Responsible for completion of preventive maintenance programs on guest rooms and equipment.
o Maintain positive public relations and a pleasant attitude with all guests and associates.
o Ensure all potential safety hazards are corrected.
o Delegate, supervise and participate in all preventive and general maintenance programs by, maintaining a room’s maintenance strategy and scheduling preventive maintenance.
o Controlling operating costs.
o Ensure that all guests’ complaints are handled with extreme courtesy and promptness.
o Maintain a clean and organized work area, and return tools to their proper place.
o Ensure that department training, self-development and running the department to its fullest potential.
o Surface issues of concern to the General Manager and CDOE.
o Work and communicate well with other departments.
o To monitor and perform test systems as necessary, to be fully informed of the system operation and to handle emergencies involving the systems. To have a working knowledge of fire sprinkler and emergency power systems.
o To be available for any emergencies and act in an engineering capacity to protect our guests and associates, and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency. To act as quickly and responsibly as possible to return the building to its normal operating status.
o Assist in preparing annual budgets.
o Completes Quore tasking and reporting
o Follows up on outstanding issues
o Trains, motivates, and develops property staff
o Communicates effectively with customers, co-workers and supervisors
o Remains flexible and responsive to scheduling needs.
o Communicates regularly as needed with the Corporate Director of Engineering
