Who We Are

Located lakeside in The Edgewater’s historic Langdon Building and our recently renovated plaza, we offer fantastic lakeside views every day. The Boathouse serves authentic Wisconsin favorites like a Chicken BLT on Stella’s Spicy Cheese Bread. Customers are invited to try the lobster roll, relax with a Boathouse Cocktail and an appetizer --all while sitting directly on beautiful Lake Mendota. In addition to serving Madison locals, The Boathouse also caters to guests of our beautiful 4-Star hotel and is the only restaurant in downtown Madison directly on Lake Mendota. Customers can visit us directly from the lake and tie up their boat on our pier! During the cold season we open our Ice rink and host a fun winter activity for families and business groups alike.

The Boathouse and Icehouse is looking for motivated individuals to help us run our restaurant and event space with passion to satisfy our guests.

The Boathouse/Icehouse Supervisor is responsible for the overall success of the restaurant and event space by exceeding guest expectations in food & beverage service. This position provides guidance, training and day-to-day supervision of Boathouse and Icehouse staff as the restaurant’s manager on duty. The Boathouse/Icehouse Supervisor supports the Boathouse/Icehouse Manager with tasks including but not limited to reviewing inventory, preparing and leading pre-shift meetings, resolving customer issues or complaints, and leading staff. The Boathouse Supervisor will continually promote a teamwork mentality by offering support to all other colleagues in the restaurant.

What You Have

• Previous experience of two (2) years or more as a manger, supervisor or lead in a restaurant setting. Experience in a hotel/resort is a plus.
• A proven track record of effectively supervising and coaching staff to drive consistent quality of service and products.
• The ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a coaching/mentor attitude.
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in English with all age groups.
• The ability to effectively manage and enforce service standards with bartenders, servers, hosts and food runners – providing training and guidance where needed.
• Willingness to learn new restaurant service concepts and ideas.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
• Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers and management.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to resolve customer issues or complaints directly.
• Must be able to perform multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.
• Must have excellent working knowledge of liquors, beers and wine.
• Ability to lift, push, pull a minimum of 50lbs.
• Ability to assist Ice Rink Monitor if needed; this may involve working in outdoor weather conditions that may be cold, snowy, & wet. Ability to ice skate is strongly preferred.

Additional Qualifications

• Must be 21 or older
• Open availability with the expectation of typically working 5 shifts a week, with shifts ranging from 8-10 hours.
• Food Safety Certification is preferred.
• Bartending experience is preferred.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a full-service, professional restaurant environment. Restaurant staff are required to use standard restaurant equipment such as point-of-sale computers, cash registers, commercial glassware and plate ware cleaning systems, etc., are required to work in our kitchen areas when receiving food orders and returning dishware. This position requires evening/weekend work.
