St. Croix Health is looking for a Full time (0.75 FTE) House Supervisor to join our team!  This position works straight nights (7 pm - 7:30 am), every third weekend and holiday.


The House Supervisor is a representative of patient care/hospital administration on all shifts. The position safeguards the quality of patient care, meeting the needs and goals of St. Croix Health. The House Supervisor is responsible for the management and coordination of all hospital departments and personnel on the off shifts and weekends in the absence of direct line managers. Overall, the House Supervisor serves as an advocate for patient care, staff, and the hospital as a whole. Assuring high quality patient care services are provided in accordance with SCH mission/vision, values, service behaviors, policies/procedures, and regulations. The House Supervisor oversees effective patient placement, assures adequate staffing resources and safe and effective care delivery in the absence of the direct line manager and on all off shifts and weekends. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Competent in Emergency Department Staff RN role.
  • Act as a liaison between patient care units, support departments and organizational leadership, medical staff and other disciplines to assure safe and effective delivery of care in accordance with hospital policy/procedures and protocols or other clinical guidelines.
  • Support overall patient care departments operating goals and needs by managing the off shifts, weekends, and holidays according to established plans for safe and effective staffing to assure high quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with all disciplines, providers, and patient's families to achieve mutually-defined patient care goals. 
  • Provide shift oversight for patient care practice, nursing care accountabilities for safe and effective delivery of care. 
  • Ensure uninterrupted quality of care by assisting with transitions of care. 
  • Analyze and evaluates complexities and volumes of nursing care required and adjusts staffing resources accordingly. 
  • Initiate discipline as needed to address emergent needs in any department during the off shift and weekend coverage and when there is not a designated dept. supervisor readily available or in house. 
  • Consult immediately with department leader and/or administrator to review situations and process to follow.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and risk management activities.
  • Make critical adjustments and contacts to obtain needed equipment, services, resources. 
  • Conduct regular rounds to all clinical care units to ensure resource needs and clinical care needs are discussed and solutions explored/implemented to support overall goals and patient care needs.
  • Provide oversight and acts as a resource for clinical staff.
  • Intervene in patient/family or provider complaints, supporting effective communication and conflict resolution. Provides necessary documentation of events and initiates appropriate follow-up.
  • Act as a liaison to Infection Control; serving as clinical resource, ensuring negative air pressure status is achieved, assisting with employee TB skin testing, fit testing if necessary, obtaining necessary consents, and any other necessary function to assure that all infection control practices are in place and followed on a shift by shift basis.
  • Ensure all expectations for HIPAA compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, hospital policies/procedures and protocols to maintain a safe patient care environment.
  • Serve as the risk management liaison; channeling issues in accordance with hospital policies/procedures and regulatory requirements. Supports timely and accurate reporting of all patient/visitor incidences, assists to monitor and support infection control and security standards established by the organization/department.
  • Primary responder and coordinator for emergency situations. Actively supports and is involved in Emergency Operations Plan and other related activities.
  • Respond to all emergencies as a key member and coordinates as defined by policies and practices.
  • Provide skilled patient care in the Emergency Department and Obstetrics. 
  • Will be assigned special projects to work on during administrative days. 

Requirements

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred

Licensure:

  • Current WI RN license required

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within six (6) months of hire
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire 
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within six (6) months of hire

Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in acute care setting preferred
  • 2 years Emergency Department experience preferred
  • Previous Charge or other leadership experience preferred

  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
  • Work consists of moderately complicated procedures and tasks which require independent judgments such as setting task priorities; evaluating results; problem solving; and coordinating with others. 
  • Necessary to participate in continuing education as appropriate.
  • Commitment to quality and following SPH and department standards, policies, practices and procedures. 
  • Able to present a professional, collaborative, cheerful, caring, and sensitive attitude to patients, their family members, coworkers and visitors. 
  • Courtesy, tact and the ability to get along with coworkers as a team member, and the ability to keep sensitive information about patients and others strictly confidential is essential. 
  • Skills in understanding, explaining, teaching, selecting, developing and motivating people are critical. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the nursing discipline in combination with a high level of general knowledge of hospital operations is required. 
  • Ability to plan and organize and to communicate effectively is essential. 
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion, decision-making, and problem-solving is vital. 
  • Position requires person who has good leadership, organization and teambuilding skills and a commitment to quality of care.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and manage staffing for Hospital Nursing staff for current and the oncoming shifts.
  • Manage bed placement assignments, monitor, and assist with direct transfer to the facility. 
  • Ensure safe patient assignments
  • In depth knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Serve on the Rapid Response Team and the Code team. 
  • Respond to critical events throughout the St. Croix Campus. 
  • Team leads for incident command set-up
  • Contact administration or department lead with critical matters
  • Serves as representative for management on off shifts and weekends. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
