Requisition Number: 52139 Location: Boulder, Colorado City Boulder State Colorado Employment Type: Faculty Schedule: Full-Time Date Posted: 05-Oct-2023 Close All Job Summary The Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Natural Language Processing (NLP). We seek candidates at the assistant, associate, or full professor level with a strong background in core NLP topics. We are especially looking for applicants who are interested in or have experience with applying NLP to interdisciplinary problems, e.g., in the areas of Computational Social Science, Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Science of Science, Trustworthy AI, or Bioinformatics and Health Sciences.

This list is not exhaustive. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's research, teaching, and service missions. This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Who We Are Computer Science is the fastest growing and largest department within the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The department is home to 50 tenured and tenure-track faculty plus 25 instructional faculty and now hosts nearly 1,300 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. Computer Science has a strong tradition and national reputation for excellence in NLP, a field that has seen a dramatic increase in student interest.

This search aims to continue our prominence in the area and deepen interdisciplinary collaborations with departments such as Linguistics, Information Science, Applied Mathematics, Psychology, and Business and Law schools. The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service.

What You Should Know The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2024, but a later start date may be negotiated. This search is aimed at increasing our critical mass of faculty with expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP). We seek candidates whose teaching, research, and service will contribute to the department's leadership in NLP and help foster an inclusive academic culture of excellence in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

What We Can Offer The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $110,000 - $130,000 academic year salary. Qualified candidates will be considered for Associate Professor or Professor rank. The full salary range is $110,000 - $190,000, depending on rank.

A relocation stipend may be available within CEAS guidelines. Tenure-track faculty benefits include eligibility for gender-neutral paid parental leave; housing down-payment assistance programs; a relocation and dual career assistance program; and teaching, research, and professional development. Be game-changing. Be Boulder. What We Require Applicants must have earned a research doctorate in Computer Science, Information Science, Computational Linguistics, Computer Engineering, or a similar field or have their degree conferred before starting a tenure-track faculty appointment.

Candidates being considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet University standards and unit criteria for tenure and promotion to the designated rank. This generally includes having an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, and demonstrated ability to obtain external funding as well as a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.
