The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a non-tenure Track Faculty Position at the level of Instructor, Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor (Open Rank), Clinical Teaching Track.  The major responsibility of individuals in these positions will be developing and teaching courses in Computer Science and Engineering. Individuals will conduct scholarly research in their area of expertise to be current with the rapid changes in the field and contribute to the academic success of engineering students through student advising and student project supervision. Teaching assignments may include online, evening and Friday courses.

Successful candidates, in addition to teaching existing CS courses, will help develop new courses for the new Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science to grow the curriculum. The Bachelor of Arts is a degree designed to create transformational relationships between computer science and fields throughout CU Denver. It allows undergraduate students to complement interests and passions in myriad fields with contemporary computer science knowledge, skills and attitudes that will render them immediately impactful in today's workforce where computing is changing everything and changing it rapidly.

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the fastest growing programs in the college and currently has thirteen full-time faculty members. In addition to the new Bachelor of Arts degree, the department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Master of Science degree, and two multidisciplinary PhD degrees-one in Computer Science and Information Systems and the other in Engineering and Applied Science. The department also offers a minor in computer science and several graduate and undergraduate certificates.

The BS in Computer Science is fully accredited by ABET/CAC, and provides quality computer science education and research opportunities to our students and quality professional service to the professional community and the public in the Denver metropolitan area. The current strengths of the faculty are in the areas of algorithms, artificial intelligence, computer networks, graphics, parallel and distributed systems, mobile systems, database and big data management and decision making, and theory. Our faculty are engaged in multidisciplinary research and encourage collaborative research among disciplines. In addition to general computing labs, the department houses five specialized research labs in graphics, networks (DECENT), Mobile and Network Systems (MNS), Big Data Management and Mining Laboratory (BDLab), and parallel and distributed systems (PDS). The department is housed in a newly designed and modern facility that provides additional opportunities for future growth.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at

Instructor CTT: $60,000-$80,000

Senior Instructor CTT: $60,000-$80,000

Assistant Professor CTT: $70,000-$100,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Required Qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor, CTT:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering or closely related field
  • Strong interest in teaching undergraduate courses
  • Passion for mentoring and supervising undergraduate student projects

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience in program and course development
  • Scholarly research skills and experience
