Position Overview
Teaches, advises, and mentors undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the FSI tenure and promotion policy and the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position.

College/Department Overview: The Forensic Science Institute (FSI) at the University of Central Oklahoma is dedicated to comprehensive training and research for students, professionals and first responders in all aspects of evidence collection, preservation, analysis, reporting, and testimony. The Institute is a leading provider of forensic science education through robust undergraduate, master’s and doctoral, level interdisciplinary programs. The Forensic Science program is accredited at the undergraduate and graduate level by the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) in all eligible disciplines to include Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Molecular Biology, Forensic Chemistry, and Digital Forensics. Specific Essential Job Functions: The Forensic Science Institute at the University of Central Oklahoma, as a metropolitan institution serving a diverse student body, has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education through transformative learning and research. The selectee will teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level courses in forensic science as well as other courses related to their discipline within an appropriate department at UCO. The selectee will assist the Director\Dean of the FSI in forensic science curriculum development in their area of expertise. The FSI curriculum includes instruction in legal requirements associated with the analysis of evidence in criminal cases and expert witness testimony regarding crime scenes and/or analytical efforts in a courtroom setting. The selectee will also be familiar with standards and accrediting bodies within their respective disciplines to include the Daubert standards related to evidence admission in courtrooms. The selectee will develop and coordinate field-training exercises for students as well as law enforcement and public safety personnel in their discipline and develop and coordinate the curriculum and offering of training in their area of expertise. Duties include teaching day/evening undergraduate/graduate classes in various formats. Scholarly research, institute, and university service are expected as defined by the FSI tenure and promotion policy and the UCO Faculty Handbook. The selectee will participate in undergraduate and graduate research activities, mentoring master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. The selectee will maintain an active research program and will seek external funding opportunities. The selectee will serve on institute and university committees as requested. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with an August 1, 2024, start date.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Experience Required: An earned doctoral degree in an appropriate forensic science or related discipline is preferred although ABD candidates will be considered.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred: Previous teaching and mentoring experience in a forensic science discipline at the college or university level. Previous professional experience in practical forensic application in one or more of the following: chemistry/toxicology, digital forensics, statistics, modeling, or artificial intelligence. The candidate should have an excellent record in teaching and research as well as having made significant contributions to the scientific literature related to their area of experience. Expert testimony in the field of experience is highly desirable. The selectee is expected to have significant ties to the professional and/or academic community related to his/her area of expertise.
Compensation
Pay commensurate with experience.
