Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities
General Purpose: Develop and grow the Apex tennis program by providing quality instruction and programs for youth and adults, of all ability levels.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Implement and supervise tennis instruction and activities following USPTA/PTR protocols to meet/exceed Apex teaching standards.
Maintain movement, energy, and positive interactions with and between participants, on and off the court.
- Responsible for maintaining progressions levels and making participant adjustments as necessary for program consistency and participant safety
- Responsible for class communication and scheduling adjustments.
- Responsible for finding a qualified substitute when unable to teach.
- Communicate with the Head Teaching Professional and Tennis Coordinator regarding changes to published schedule or use of substitute instructor.
- Promotion of tennis program, special events, drills, privates, opportunities to play, and racquet stringing service
- Responsible for cleaning up courts and facilities after each lesson or drill
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized instruction for private, semi-private, and small group lessons, drills, and special events.
- Attend trainings and seminars for professional development and to incorporate new program ideas.
- Provide first aid and complete incident reports as necessary.
- Promote and advise players about the racquet stringing program and string selection.
- Knowledgeable of class, drill offerings, and playing opportunities
- Promote CARA, Junior Team tennis, and camps, to players.
- Support Head Teaching Professional and Tennis Coordinator with special events, tournaments, leagues and instructor training.
- Work evenings, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
- Attend department and agency staff meetings as requested.10. Perform other duties and special assignments as directed.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill, Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of the game of tennis and the ability to effectively communicate with players, parents, and staff team members.
- Ability to structure classes and drills to keep players engaged on the court.
- Excellent organizational ability and time management skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment.
- Willingness to expand teaching knowledge
- Computer literate.
Education and Experience
Education or Formal Training:
- A high school or college degree, or in progress of obtaining.
- A high leve HS player or College experience or an NTRP rating of 4.0 or above
- First aid, CPR, and AED certification or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
Experience:
1-2 years of teaching/coaching experience preferred.
Work Environment
- Working in both outdoor and indoor environments
- Repetitive tasks of ball feeding and retrieving for up to 6 hours
- Ability to demonstrate movement and energy on the court
- Upper body strength to lift cases of balls and court hoppers, set up ball machine and tables for special events, and operate court sweeper
- Ninety percent of this position is active teaching; Ten percent is administrative.
- Dependable transportation.
