JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Temporary Maintenance Technician-Parks (Seasonal)
Mon-Fri. 7:00am - 3:30pm
Reports To: Parks Superintendent
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the maintenance of the City's parks. Duties include, mowing, trimming and tree removal, litter control, sign and post installation, equipment care and maintenance.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Safely operate equipment to accomplish park and trail maintenance.
- Safely operate various machinery and hand-held power tools such as push mowers, edgers, line trimmers, chippers, rotary tillers, jackhammers, chainsaws, drills, and trenchers
- Safely operate pickup trucks and work safely in close proximity to vehicular traffic
- Mow grass; remove litter, weeds and graffiti; maintain, clean and restock park facilities; remove any hazards to ensure safety.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Participate in accomplishing Parks and Recreation projects and city-wide projects.
- Maintain strict adherence to all safety standards and precautions. Report any on-the-job injuries to Department Superintendent, Director, or Human Resources.
- Convey a positive image by action, communication and appearance.
- Exhibit regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED required.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C Driver's License, with a satisfactory driving record, as defined by City policy prior to hire.

- Exhibit good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
- Meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks under pressure.
- Work successfully independently or as part of a team.
- Provide excellent public relations and customer service.
- Either possess knowledge of safety standards applicable to jobs accomplished in the Parks Department or be able to be trained to a complete understanding of such safety standards and precautions.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is confined mainly to an outdoor setting in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather. Subject to wet or humid conditions, sunburn, and other sun exposure reactions.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time while working on maintenance or repair projects.
- May work in locations that require climbing, walking, crouching, crawling over all terrain types in all weather conditions. May be exposed to falls from elevated areas.
- Exposure to traffic, dust, fumes, and loud noise that are routinely encountered in maintenance operations.
- Exposure to vibration, airborne particles, petroleum distillates, toxic or caustic chemicals, dust, fumes, loud noise and risk of electric shock.
- Exposure to stinging and biting insects, poisonous plants, snakes and other wildlife.
- May encounter occasional stressful situations.
- Must possess the ability to access remote sites that may require climbing and traversing rough terrain, possible in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle to project site and perform other job functions as needed.
- Must possess visual acuity, with or without correction, to perform mechanical repairs and to operate equipment and vehicles safely.
- Must be able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction when working around equipment or traffic.
- Must possess mental acuity for attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to sit, stand or walk for significant periods of time daily. Required to reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds, and pull, push, or drag up to 150 pounds of supplies or equipment.
- Must possess general manual dexterity to operate equipment, tools, controls or other objects; reach with hands or arms and must be able to use stepstools and ladders to perform tasks and store and retrieve items of various sizes, shapes and forms.
