Temporary Computer Operator - IT Support Provider - College of Arts & Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University has a one-year, full-time temporary opportunity to be trained on the job as a Temporary IT Support Provider. This role will assist in maintaining the college’s MacOS and Windows computing environment and provide ad hoc “just in time” assistance in supporting instructors in college classrooms.


Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Arts Quad and Uris IT Managers

  • Learn to troubleshoot hardware and software issues on MacOS and Windows platforms.

  • Learn to provide “just in time” AV support for departments throughout the College of A&S.

  • Assist in the setup and configuration of desktops/laptops, applications, and related equipment.

  • Assist in installing, modifying, and repairing computer hardware and software.

  • With the guidance of IT staff, help maintain and update documentation of procedures, user guides, and hardware/software inventories.

  • Collaborate with other A&S IT and AV staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of systems for fulfilling academic, administrative, and instructional objectives.


This is a full time, benefits eligible, 1 year temp appointment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Training 6 months to 1year toward Technical/IT degree.
  • Basic understanding or interest in learning MacOS and Windows operating systems and hardware.
  • Strong interest in computer support and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Must be flexible and willing to actively listen, learn, take direction, adapt, and thrive in a fast-paced, changing IT environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or work towards an Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and efficiently follow through on assigned tasks to their completion.
  • Experience helping others with computer technology and technology related issues

Pay Range $23-$25/hr
