Since 1969, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) has been a vital presence in Greater Boston and beyond, empowering Asians and new immigrants to build healthy families, achieve greater economic success, and contribute to thriving communities. We provide a broad range of innovative programs and services centered around education, workforce development, family support, and arts and culture, leaving a significant and lasting impact on the lives of more than 13,000 children, youth, and adults every year.
 
About Youth Center: 
The Youth Center provides a space for youth to build connections, explore and understand their community, and to put leadership skills into action. Through year-round programming centered on leadership development, education, and workforce readiness in Boston and Quincy, BCNC supports youth to thrive in school and beyond.
 
About The Role:
BCNC YC's Teen Employment Program is looking to hire 15 Youth Leaders (ages 14-18) and 3 Young Adult Leaders (ages 19-24) in Spring 2024. The program is to provide youth with workforce skills, practical experience, and the opportunity to have a meaningful impact with various departments of the organization. 
 
What You Will Do – If hired, you will be placed in one of the following departments at BCNC:
 
Youth Center:
  • Assist ChiSL program coordinator with recruitment and leading weekly ChiSL meetings.
  • Assist CAPS program coordinators with CAPS events, workshops, and alum engagement (open to Young Adult Leaders). 
  • Assist Youth Center with social media and marketing strategies and content (open to Young Adult Leaders).
 
Building Operations:
  • Support staff with front desk duties; answering phone calls, assisting with childcare dismissals.
  • Maintaining safeness of all participants and staff.
  • Filing and administrative work.

Acorn Center Early Education & Care: 
  • Assist Group Leaders in implementation of age-appropriate activities for children.
  • Assist with care of children and maintenance of classroom space. 
 
Red Oak Afterschool Program:
  • Assist with classroom management.
  • Assist in chaperoning field trips.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor. 
 
What We Look For:
  • Responsible, punctual, know how to manage their time appropriately. 
  • \Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Excellent listening, organizational, and communication skills.
  • An interest in helping the community. 
  • Childcare Assistant must have interest in working with young children in a classroom setting.
  • Familiarity with Asian American culture, and a willingness to work in a collective environment with children and teenagers.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese is preferred.
 
Working Conditions: 
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard work environment, including the operation of computer equipment, and physical demands associated with a traditional work setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary.
 
When: 
  • Orientation in January 2024
  • Program will run from January – May 2024
 
Pay:
  • Youth Leaders will work up to 10 hours per week and receive a pay rate of $15.00 per hour
  • Young Adult Leaders will work up to 15 hours per week and receive a pay rate of $17.00 per hour
