The Break - Crystal Lake Teen Center
The Break provides a safe and stimulating environment where teens can come together, connect, and build confidence. It is a place for teens to be seen and heard. We continually strive to create a circle of support around young people by creating authentic relationships and connections with our service provider partners. We also provide recreational and educational programs that are fun, engage our members, and build hope and resilience.
The Break is a membership program serving teens and young people ages 18-26 from across McHenry county and neighboring communities. To date, we have served more than 1,000 members.
Prevention and Wellness Specialist
We are seeking a full-time Prevention and Wellness Specialist. The ideal candidate has knowledge and connections in the youth service community in McHenry County and experience working with teens and young people 18-26. The position will be a combination of working with Break members, community outreach and networking.
Responsibilities include:
- Interact with youth offering Prevention and early intervention assessments and resource connection for youth in middle school, high school, and post high school 18-26.
- Build relationships with members to assess social connectedness and resilience status and support members through resource connection.
- Collect and analyze prevention program data to identify trends, create programs, and share with the team for purposes of strategic program development and grant reporting.
- Work to engage members and volunteers in center activities to continue to build community by and for young people.
- Represent the Break in the community through participation on youth-related and prevention-oriented committees, task forces, and community events.
- Work alongside the Board President and Building/Member Engagement Manager to provide staff and volunteer training, assist in marketing and communications to achieve recruitment, member satisfaction, and reputation goals as needed.
- Partner in recreational and educational program planning, execution, and communication to engage members and build social and emotional skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field with opportunities for tuition reimbursement if seeking specific certificates through McHenry County Workforce, McHenry County Community College or Aurora University
- 1-2 years experience working with youth in a community or school setting.
- Knowledge of youth development and trauma-informed communication.
- Excellent verbal and computer skills.
- Use of social media and online communication to help engage youth, staff, and volunteers.
- Experience in public speaking, evidence-based practices, and curriculum research and implementation is preferred.
- Strong belief in the power of team and collaboration to achieve desired goals and the ability to work independently to achieve goals.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Salary: $22 - $25/hour dependent on experience.
