Technology Support Staff Member PURPOSE: Full-time Information Computer Support Technician positions in the Milton Public Schools support and maintain the district's computer systems, such as desktops, Chromebooks, and iPads as well as their peripherals. Support and maintain all AV inventory, such as Interactive boards, document cameras, and sound systems. Install, diagnose, repair, maintain, and upgrade all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal performance.Troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion. Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring device performance.
Accurately document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal. Support development and implementation of new computer projects and new hardware installations. This position also provides technical support for computers, wireless devices, other hardware, software, and related networks for the Milton Public Schools, including Windows/Mac/Google/Chrome knowledge; performs all other related work as required. The Information Technology Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.
Report to the Director of Information Technology.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision: Supervision Scope: Performs technical and responsible duties requiring initiative and independent judgment in supporting the school systems computers, wireless devices, other hardware, software, and related networks.Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Information Technology Director. Once projects are assigned and priorities are set, this position works with independent judgment to solve problems and determine the appropriate course of action.Supervision Given to Others: None. Installs, configures and supports Windows based PCs. Installs operating systems and applications for computers using third party hosting software. Instructs school staff on presentation station usage and Internet connectivity. Prepares and calibrates Smart Boards and LCD projectors for computer-based presentations.
Diagnoses and resolves network connectivity issues by analyzing TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP and printer configuration. Installs and configures networking hardware, wireless networks with the 802.11b standards, Cat 5/6 cables, port jacks, switches, and hubs. Installs and configures various desktop hardware, printers, scanners, and expansion cards. Provides support for LAN/WAN based applications.
Administers and maintains user account information in a Windows Domain environment. Configures and administers email accounts for over 5000 end users. Provides tutorial aids and instructional support for school staff and elementary school labs. Backs-up critical files for end-users during software re-installations.
Maintains, cleans, and inspects over 700 desktop computers. Troubleshoot and repair VoIP phone system problems.Orders computer supplies for schools pending Principal's approval.Maintains inventory of computers and logs related statistics to a centralized database. Disposes of non-functional PCs and monitors by taking them to a recycling facility. Set Up A/V Equipment for Large Functions and Events.
Provide IT and AV support for Large Functions or Events.Enroll, manage, repair, and deprovision 6000 chromebooks across the district.Prepare and assist in the administration of digital assessments such as MCAS and AP testing.Be willing to work after hours events hosted in any of the MPS buildings.Regular attendance and punctuality at the workplace are required.Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.Provides phone, remote, and onsite support as needed.Maintains Helpdesk ticketing system.Perform updates and maintenance of administrative and support software.Perform routine maintenance & repair of Windows & Chrome devices.Replace hardware as needed.Maintain inventory of 1:1 Chromebook programMay require some evening maintenance work or added hours.Other duties as assigned by the IT Director.Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Computer maintenance and repair experience.Proficiency with Google Admin ConsoleExcellent problem solving, organization, time management, and customer service skills.Certifications: hardware, software, networking, preferred.EdTech experience is a plus.Minimum 1 year experience in the field. Special Requirements: A+ CertificationEducation, Training and Experience: Associates degree plus three to four years of computer technology and networking experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Knowledge: Knowledge of networking, Windows operating systems and hardware, Mac devices, Chrome devices, Google applications, and WiFi. Ability: Ability to train others and to provide user support. Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks at one time. Skill: Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Strong organizational skills. Strong technical skills.
Skill in all of the above listed technologies, tools and equipment. Job Environment: Work is performed under typical office conditions; the noise level is moderate. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. May occasionally attend technical training seminars.
Frequently drives to various schools in town at which time the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. May occasionally be called during off-shift times to attend evening meetings and to check equipment. Operates automobile, computers, printers, scanners and other peripherals.Has frequent contact with school system staff, vendors, equipment donors and the general public. Most contacts involve discussing hardware or software problems.Has access to confidential department information.Errors could result in delays or loss of service, damage to equipment, and possible personal injury or injury to other employees.
