Work involves installation, maintenance and repair of various equipment and systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural systems in county buildings, grounds and parks. This position performs basic carpentry duties, landscape maintenance and construction duties. This position requires the ability to perform repairs and maintenance of electrical systems and lighting such as replacing bulbs, ballasts, and fuses. Duties require the ability to work from elevated platforms such as scaffolding, ladders or lifts up to 85 feet above the ground. Position requires working nonstandard hours, more than 40 hours per week, after hours, weekends and holidays as required. Work also includes general maintenance tasks.
- Operates standard equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, bush hogs, bobcats, fork lifts, etc.
- Performs repairs on electrical systems in buildings such as but not limited to replacing electrical motors and electronic doors and hardware; installs breakers, installs conduit; repairs and replaces electrical outlets, replaces circuit breakers, etc.
- Assist the electrician with wiring buildings and other equipment as needed.
- Performs preventative maintenance service and minor repairs on HVAC systems and equipment such as changing belts and filters.
- Repairs water leaks; replaces and installs new plumbing fixtures, repairs or replaces water lines and repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures and equipment.
- Performs basic carpentry framing, interior and exterior painting, repairs metal and asphalt shingle roofs, repairs or replaces tile, carpet and concrete floors.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment by changing filters, checking belts, cleaning smoke detectors and checking boilers and generators.
- Maintains inventory records of cleaning supplies and the maintenance equipment in the county buildings.
- Comfortably perform duties from a lift up to 85 ft. i.e. replacement of bulbs, ballasts and fuses on light poles and stadium lighting, repairs to field netting, etc.
- Assist electrician with electrical repairs/replacements as needed.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma from an accredited high school or G.E.D equivalent from a state approved or accredited program.
- Two or more years experience performing commercial or residential building maintenance work that includes, but is not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry.
- Valid Driver's License.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- A Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Technicians may be required to obtain their CDL license as a condition of employment.
- Experience operating a bucket truck or lift at heights up to 85'.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather extremes, asbestos, chemical substances, dust, fumes, noise, humidity, odors and the possibility of physical danger with working inside the county jail.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is heavy in nature and consists of standing, lifting, carrying and pushing of up to 100 pounds, bending, walking, using hand and fingers to operate tools. Must have good vision to read and make necessary repairs.EXAMINATIONS
