Technical Services Associate Scientist

Position Summary:
As an Associate Specialist you will play a crucial role in the formulation of nutritional supplement products in diverse forms to support manufacturing operations. This entails collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and summarizing data, as well as addressing any manufacturing issues that may arise. Additionally, you will be responsible for evaluating new technologies and ingredients, as well as identifying opportunities for cost savings.
To ensure the highest quality standards, strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) is an absolute requirement for this role. By upholding these standards, the Associate Specialist will contribute to the overall success and excellence of our manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Looks for innovative and better ways of doing things. Actively looks to eliminate non-value added steps of processes and procedures.
  • Collects and evaluates data, and authors technical summaries. Uses a variety of software tools and programs to input, retrieve and analyze data as needed.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing including but not limited to formulation or process improvement, cost savings initiatives and trouble shooting.
  • Assists with creating new raw material specifications, master batch records, change controls, deviations or other required documentation in support of manufacturing existing in-line products.
  • Assists with scale up, validating and transferring technologies/processes to other internal manufacturing sites, or externally.
  • Keeps records of laboratory work and observations. Cleans and maintains lab equipment and rooms.
  • Explores and shares new scientific information, technologies, products and processes with the Technical Services team.
  • Manages and controls the maintenance of all electronic and non-electronic documents within Technical Services, including Master Batch Records. Independently performs audits to ensure data accuracy, compliance and harmonization among systems/documents. Exercises individual judgement in reconciling issues/discrepancies.
  • Project Management of Change Control projects and Master Batch Record(s) approvals as it relates to Tech Services/R&D. Monitors, expedites and tracks change control projects, Product Quote Requests and Master Batch Record(s) approvals as it relates to Tech Services/R&D.
  • Leads communication with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Procurement and Nutrition Department to track progress and ensure that all internal and external work activities are conducted to appropriated standards, in accordance with Company policies, laws, quality standards, SOPs, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree in Life Sciences or Engineering is required.
  • 1-3 years of familiarity with Nutraceutical/Pharmaceutical manufacturing, either as a research laboratory technician or a plant operations supervisor.
  • Recent college graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related scientific field will also be considered, even without prior experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel, are necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

  • Proficiency in mathematics, including solving basic algebraic equations, is required.
  • A working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) is expected.
  • Solid understanding of scientific principles to assist in formulation and manufacturing processes.
  • The ability to lift approximately 40 pounds is necessary for this role.
  • Please note that the work environment may involve exposure to powders, chemicals, and allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, milk, dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, soy, fish, and shellfish.

The approximate pay range for this position is $65,000.00 to $75,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
