Form of workJoin our team of software engineers to develop the latest software projects in the Southwest Division (SWD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. Our team develops modeling and simulation tools including graphical user interfaces and the back-end physics-based computations. Our interns are valued members of the team, tasked with work that is critical to the success of our projects. You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and computer scientists developing simulation tool technologies to support real-world planning operations for the Department of Defense. You'll become familiar with unique research areas such as weapons effects, weaponeering, and anti-terrorism tactics. Our technology stack evolves over the years, but the main skills we use today include modern C++, Qt, and CMake. Our infrastructure tools include git, Microsoft Visual Studio, Atlassian tools, and TeamCity. At the end of the day, we try to find the best way to deliver useful products to our end users. The teams retain a mindset that is open to change and improvement.
This is a part-time internship opportunity for Spring 2024 with option to work full-time over the summer.
What you'll do as a Technical Intern 3
- Designing, coding, and debugging applications in C++.
- Debugging and fixing software defects.
- Writing and running software tests.
- Supporting, maintaining, and documenting software functionality.
- Implementing minor code enhancements.
- Technical Intern 3 Requirements
- Must be a junior/senior college student actively pursuing degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
- Must be proficient in C++.
- Have basic knowledge of Git.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work within a team.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Technical Intern 3 Preferences
- Experience with Visual Studio development platform.
- Experience with Agile Processes.
- Experience with SQLite or other databases.
