Job description

WE MAKE FUN...FUNNER.

We are Full Circle, and we're all about having fun and making great games that people want to play with their friends. As the developers of Skate™, we are set to deliver an experience that embraces and builds upon everything our community found special about the previous games. We believe in creating an inclusive world inside and outside of our games for our players and our team. As a geo-diverse studio, our team members around the globe can either work from home, in the office or a hybrid of both.

We are looking for a Technical Gameplay Designer with experience mapping complex game controls to various controller/input devices. You will partner with the gameplay team to map out, implement, and fine tune multiple control schemes that apply the relevant ergonomic principles of accessibility and usability, while allowing for mastery over time. This role requires strong technical competency with visual scripting tools, and a deep understanding of the cognitive load placed on players.

As a Technical Gameplay Designer reporting to the Lead Gameplay Designer, you will:

Responsibilities

  • You will partner with the gameplay team, and collaborate with design leadership through all stages of development to ensure ideal controller mappings and documentation for each platform, input method, and player motivation.

  • You will collaborate with other Gameplay Designers to map game controls that are easy to use, taking into account human physical and cognitive limitations and balancing them against design intent and mechanical depth.

  • You will set up and iterate on the logic for low level inputs in-engine using visual scripting tools and visual state machines.

  • You will iterate on gameplay feel by tuning details such as input dead zones, input buffers, and analogue magnitude thresholds.

  • You will own, manage, and grow a collection of player-facing input options, and resolve complexities and conflicts that arise from their various combinations.

Qualifications

Please note that you do not need to qualify for all requirements to be considered. We encourage you to apply if you can meet most of the requirements and are comfortable opening a dialog to be considered.

  • 5 + years of experience as a game designer working on AAA and/or mobile titles.

  • Comprehensive understanding of current market trends and consumer feedback with the ability to craft and implement innovative ideas based on analytics, data, and research.

  • Deep familiarity with the fundamentals of user experience and playability testing.

  • Proven experience and understanding of onboarding new players/users.

  • Experience using in-engine scripting tools to author and modify in-game logic.

  • Passion for fostering an inclusive and diverse, 'team-first' culture based on fun.
