Purpose: Strategically interpret and develop the commercialization and engineering of product to meet design vision, merchant requirements and company financial goals. Manage the product integrity of merchandise across assigned departments. Ensure products achieve the fit, construction and quality requirements to meet customer expectations, brand positioning and are aligned with Design and Merchandising objectives.
Core Accountabilities:
- Manage the technical design product life cycle process from initial sketch through to production fit approval
- Manage the development and maintenance of tech packs throughout the line creation process
- Provide guidance and recommendations on account readiness and fit empowerment
- Organize and lead all account fit sessions to develop Brand aesthetic, silhouette and proportion within the price point for assigned categories
- Own the process of creating & maintaining specification packages to meet the design aesthetic & company financial goals
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and account stakeholders to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction
- Develop specifications and garment construction methods for assigned product categories from initial style development and cost engineer for bulk production
- Problem solve all technical issues related to fit and execution including fabric application, construction, grading and cost engineering
- Effectively communicate fit intent, balance and construction revisions to overseas factory affiliates and account partners via fit notes, diagrams, pattern corrections and digital photos
- Evaluate prototype samples and fit samples for measurement, fit and construction accuracy and quality according to account’s Brand standards
- Ensure Brand consistency in aesthetic, fit and construction across all styles within your category
- Effectively communicate with cross functional teams to ensure calendar milestone deliverables are met
- Proactively identify and solve potential production, quality and costing issues and make appropriate recommendations for resolutions
- Escalate issues when necessary and provide root cause analysis, fact finding and possible solutions
- Track workload deliverables to ensure individual deadlines are met and work with production partners to avoid garment delivery slides
- Attend key Milestone meetings to provide technical support with regards to fit and construction
- Follow current market trends in overall fit and styling direction to enhance knowledge and affect overall product fit, quality, and salability
- Read customer reviews on a regular basis to action any improvements or corrections that need to be made to products
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- 5-10 years of apparel technical design work experience required
- College degree, certificate program or equivalent professional work experience required
Skills:
- Working knowledge of Excel
- Experience with PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator and 3D design systems are a plus
- Proven expertise in apparel fitting, spec/block creation and pattern correction/manipulation
- Strong project management skills with critical attention to detail
- Confident, engaging verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of working independently to meet multiple deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal cross functional team members, account partners and overseas affiliates
Annual Salary: $70,000 to $98,000
