DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Teaching), Career track faculty position. This position is open to applicants with a wide range of relevant specializations, including but not limited to web design and development, graphic design, digital cinema, AR/VR, social media and search engine optimization, 2D and 3D animation, and game studies. This is a temporary, nine-month, three year appointment with possibility of renewal. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and benefits are competitive. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2024. This position is located on the Richland, WA campus.
The Digital Technology and Culture (DTC) program is an interdisciplinary program within the College of Arts and Sciences emphasizing humanistic understandings of technology, publicly engaged research, and creative production emphasizing social justice, anti-racist pedagogies, and decolonial methodologies. DTC faculty combine creative production and critical inquiry with an emphasis on community engagement in various formats. The DTC program is a growing unit with several undergraduate tracks and a graduate certificate. Students in the program receive instruction on engaged practice and critical approaches to a wide breath of theory, technology, and media.

WSU is a land grant, multi-campus, state university. The Assistant Professor, Career Track, position will serve on the Tri-Cities campus located in Richland, Washington.
The successful candidate will join a growing interdisciplinary program consisting of scholars, teachers, and practitioners of design, animation, critical digital literacy, digital media studies, web development, information ethics, critical game studies, and software studies. CAS and the University values and supports interdisciplinary work and fosters broad collaborations that break down silos and extend to meaningful partnerships with the multiple publics the university serves. The DTC program offers the B.A., as well as a graduate certificate in digital culture and humanities. SALARY/RANK
This is career-track Teaching Assistant Professor position with a 9-month academic appointment at the Washington State University Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA. The annual salary for this position is $47,999.97 - $54,999.99 per (9) nine-month academic year. The position has an initial 3-year contract which is expected to be extended.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate courses, mentor students, work in collaboration with other units in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and be an active part of the DTC core faculty. The successful candidate will teach core courses in DTC (DTC 101, 201, 206, 475, 497) along with specific courses in their area of specialization. Required Qualifications:
MA, MFA, or MDe, MAD, MGraph, Ph.D. in related area on or before the hire date
  • Evidence of successful classroom and/or individual instruction or mentorship
  • Evidence of ability to mentor students, including those from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a studio, lab or collaborative production spaces, on collaborative projects, and/or within collaborative programs
  • Commitment to retention of underrepresented students and student-success initiatives
  • Experience with, or willingness to, teach online.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Temporary End Date: This position has an initial 3-year contract which is expected to be extended. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance, mutual consent, and available funding.
