Position Description

The Department of Biostatistics within the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) is a leading center of excellence for the development and application of statistical methods and theory in health sciences, as well as a leading center of excellence in statistical training. It has longstanding partnerships with many local research institutes and with the Department of Statistics, with which it shares core courses in its rigorous training programs. The Department of Biostatistics invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. This is a full time (100% FTE), 12-month service period position with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. The base salary range for this position will be $9,583 - $12,500 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidates will:

i. teach 4 – 6 Biostatistics courses per year (quarter system) including undergraduate courses, courses for graduate students in public health, and courses for graduate students in Biostatistics

ii. provide educational leadership in the Department’s teaching program with emphasis on innovative pedagogy;


iii. share the department's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;


iv. contribute to the departmental community by engaging in seminars and departmental outreach activities and serving on key committees.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS. Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field. Candidates should have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching Biostatistics and/or Statistics at the university level.

EVALUATION CRITERIA. All candidates will be evaluated according to three criteria: (i) evidence of teaching and mentoring skills, (ii) evidence of academic rigor and vision, and (iii) potential for and commitment to service, departmental citizenship, and community engagement. The evaluation for each criterion will include consideration of the following cross-cutting domains: (i) evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations, (ii) communication, (iii) innovation and leadership, and (iv) contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
