Reporting to the Director of School Engagement in the Arts, 92NY Teaching Artists are practicing professional artists and educators in a range of arts and humanities disciplines who are committed to helping students discover and nurture their intellectual and artistic passions. 92NY School Engagement in the Arts is one of New York City's largest community arts education providers, creating dynamic programs, performances and talks for thousands of K-12 students and their teachers each year across the boroughs.
We are currently seeking artist-educators with experience teaching creative writing to join our team of Teaching Artists to lead school-based residencies as part of our Spring 2024 High School Literary Arts Program Season. Teaching Artists will work with participating high school classrooms, leading in-person creative writing residencies. The residencies will have as an anchor students' study of - and a live reading and conversation with - writer and poet Richard Blanco. 92NY produces a curriculum for our Teaching Artists to use and make their own in bringing the material to life for students.
We are recruiting Teaching Artists who are available to teach at our partnering schools in-person in NYC.
Applicants should be available to participate in curriculum workshops with 92NY staff in late February 2024 and available to work during regular school hours (8am-2:30pm ET) from March - May 2024.
Job Responsibilities Include
- Teach workshops for participating high school classrooms at 92NY's partnering NYC public schools.
- Provide written feedback on student work and guide students through the development of a culminating poetry.
- Attend in-person and/or virtual professional development workshops with 92NY.
- Collaborate with partnering classroom English teachers.
- Carry out administrative tasks, such as submission of written lesson plans, teaching schedules, payment forms, and surveys.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
- Two years of English Language Arts / Creative Writing teaching experience in classroom settings at the high school level.
- Master's Degree in Education or Creative Writing plus three to five years of relevant teaching experience in classroom settings at the high school level.
- Passionate about teaching and creating warm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate group decision-making; meticulous attention to detail; flexible.
- Applicants should be available to participate in curriculum workshops in February 2024 and available to work during regular school hours (8am-2:30pm ET) from March-May 2024.
- Current proof of fingerprinting clearance through the NYC and NY State Department of Education is required for employment.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.

Per Diem Compensation Range
$100 per class session.
$40/ hour for lesson preparation.
$50/hour for planning meetings, and curriculum workshops.
Teaching and preparatory/planning hours will be assessed once class schedules are confirmed.
