DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Hmong Program Director, the Teacher - Specialist is responsible for creating an environment that supports a culture of learning and embraces student achievement in the subject area. This includes creating classroom lesson plans, administering recognition, modeling exemplary behavior, and facilitating/instructing on all subject areas as it aligns with state and school standards. Additionally, he/she will create well-rounded and comprehensive instructional programs that challenge the minds of students and promote innovative classroom learning and engagement. He/she will also partner with teachers to develop consistent strategies and goals across grade levels and collaborate with Hmong Program Director to develop classroom strategies.

The Teacher - Specialist must demonstrate a strong work ethic, have integrity, and is accountable to his/her actions. He/she will align himself/herself with NMA's core principles and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee community. A successful teacher will also have experience in a high performing fast paced environment.

Classroom Instruction

• In partnership with the Hmong Program Director, develop classroom instructions and lesson plans that align with NMA's curriculum in subject area (Hmong language and culture)
• Fosters a culture of learning that embraces the strengths of all scholars
• Engages families and parents on classroom instruction including materials, recognition and feedback
• Develops lesson plans regularly that outline daily objectives
• Develops classroom strategies that cater to individual student learning
• Collaborates with Academic Coaches, Hmong Program Director, and Educational Leaders to identify intervention strategies
• Facilitates classroom intervention programs
• Collaborates with paraprofessional and provide guidance to them around classroom support
• Utilizes curriculum that reflects the diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the scholars served
• Administrative classroom duties - grading, supporting, copying, printing, planning, creating curriculum materials and resources and provide tutoring
• Utilizes data and information to make decisions for individualizing students learning abilities
• Researches classroom trends that benefit classroom instruction

Curriculum Development

• In partnership with the Hmong Program Director, the Teacher- Specialist is responsiblie for developing curricular resources and materials that aligns with NMA's Hmong Language and Culture curriculum.
• Participates and engages in 3HC district initiatives

Behavioral Management

• Models positive behavior in the classroom that supports a safe and secure learning environment
• Implements PBIS in the classroom and throughout the school building
• Fosters a positive learning environment where scholars are equally engaged and accountable to their actions and decisions
• Utilizes classroom recognition strategies to promote positive behavior
• Follows the RHINO Way and ensures students abide by the same principles
