05/17/2024The selection of substitutes shall be made on the basis of academic training, certification status, past teaching experience, a structured interview, and recommendations.
- Group A: Degree-holding teachers who are, have been, or could have been fully certificated in Maryland; degree-holding teachers who can be, under special state-approved reciprocity arrangements, fully certified in Maryland; and retired teachers from this county school system.
- Group B: Individuals who hold a Bachelor's degree or above and do not have full certification in Maryland.
- Group C: Individuals having less than a Bachelor's degree.
Terms
- A level: daily rate, $150 per day
- B level: daily rate, $123 per day
- C level: daily rate, $110 per day
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Role Responsibilities
The substitute teacher shall:
- Make every effort to preserve the regular routine of the class, follow the plans designed by the classroom teacher and perform such duties as required.
- Attend special orientation sessions provided by the school system and such meetings as requested by the school administration.
- Complete reports that are requested or required by the school.
- Notify the Human Resources Office immediately if he or she is no longer available for substitute work.
- Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
An applicant shall not be considered for a substitute teaching assignment until the following documents have been received:
- Verification of education (copy of diploma, transcripts, or teaching certificate if applicable)
- 3 completed recommendation forms
