Candidate Qualifications:
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (Trade and Industrial Education) with required endorsements and work experience for subject and level assigned

OR may include a combination of:
  • Professional work experience in the criminal justice field;
  • Formal training and education;
  • Relevant industry licensure, certification, or registration; and/or
  • Any combination of work experience, training and education, or industry credential related to the subject matter he/she will be teaching.

Specific certifications for this position:
  • None needed

Primary Purpose: Serve as Criminal Justice - Court Systems instructor. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to be successful in post-secondary criminal justice courses and/or entry-level employment opportunities in the criminal justice field.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Present a positive role model for students; demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skill in the subject areas taught.
  3. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
  4. Develop long- and short-range plans for the instructional program.
  5. Provide planned instruction to assigned students; present the subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  6. Create a classroom environment conducive to effective learning, to include classroom management strategies.
  7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  8. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
  9. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  10. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  11. Work to establish and maintain a professional competence through participation in campus and district staff development programs.
  12. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  13. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  14. Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  15. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  16. Responsible for receiving and maintaining textbooks, study materials, teaching supplies, and classroom equipment as provided by the District; keep a current inventory of all items and provide the inventory upon request.
  17. Assume responsibility for student participation in leadership activities associated with a career and technical education student association as sanctioned by TEA and the District.

Equipment Used:
Computer, copier, LCD, Interactive white board, DVD player, other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise external student internships and student teacher(s).
Working Conditions:
Physical demands/environment factors: May require standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Will require frequent travel to and from internship sites.
Mental demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.
