Salary Range: $43,001/year or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education
JOB SUMMARY
The Criminal Justice Training Center Instructor prepares and presents Texas Commission Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic police academy and in-service training classes and assists in developing class curriculum.
DUTIES
- Teaches and coordinates courses in areas of competency in the Basic Peace Officer Program; participates in the total instructional program of the college
- Designs and maintains an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success
- Provides advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues
- Plans, develops, and uses a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist cadets in meeting course objectives
- Adheres to State Record Management and Reporting requirements
- Assists in the scheduling of facilities, including the firing ranges
- Coordinates as necessary with Academy staff on all observed cadet performance and conduct issues
MARGINAL DUTIES

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary Work Location:
- Works in an office environment (2 - 4 hours), classroom, training room, or auditorium (2 - 4 hours)
Physical Demands:
- The working environment will be a combination of inside and outside, in wet and dry conditions, and will include areas considered dangerous or hazardous, including a firing range
- Requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, and climbing
- Adequate speech, hearing, visual acuity, and ability to distinguish color is required
- May be required to carry, push, pull, drag, or hold medium to heavy weight objects of up to 50 lbs
- The use of fingers, hands, arms, and legs is required; may be required to take offensive and/or defensive action during physical confrontations
- Must have the ability to balance firearms

Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience
License/Certification:
- TCOLE Instructor Certification is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- TCOLE Master Peace Officer Certification is preferred
- Ten (10) years experience as a full-time peace officer is preferred
- Five (5) years of experience teaching in a law enforcement academy or college/university Criminal Justice program is preferred
