The Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) is recruiting for an Education Program Assistant to complete our team of Teacher Certification Analysts.
What You Will Be Doing
You will work with applicants, school district personnel, and the public in person, by telephone, and through email correspondence to answer questions related to the requirements for Teacher Certification. You will have a variety of duties in support of the Teacher Certification program, including checking application submissions for completeness, determining eligibility of applicants, entering applicant information into databases, contacting applicants for supplemental information, completing final reviews of documents, updating existing databases with new certification information, and scanning applications.

The daily work environment at DEED is energetic, collaborative, and fast paced as staff work together to support Alaska's school districts and students. Our Juneau office is conveniently located downtown on the 9th floor of the State Office Building. There is ample covered parking and easy access to restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping. Who We Are Looking For
Our ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
  • Experience using computers, software applications, databases, and automated system to accomplish work.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to see and pay attention to details, recognize the component parts of a procedure or object, and verify correctness or error in the individual part or procedure.
  • Ability to comprehend and correctly apply information presented in written form, make correct inferences, and draw accurate conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete tasks in order to deliver desired outcomes within allotted time frames.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of full proficiency level clerical experience of which one year was in an educational environment such as would be found in traditional, correspondence or continuing education schools, education service providers or regulatory agencies.
Substitution: Post-secondary education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
