Under the general supervision of the teacher/director, the Teacher Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing a well-organized, functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources and materials.
Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for assisting the classroom teacher
- Assist with the development and implementation of lesson plans health and emergency procedures.
- Assist the teacher in working with individuals and groups of students.
- Attend meetings and in-service as required by the Principal and Director.
- Assumes responsibility of the preschool teacher in the absence of the preschool teacher.
- Willing to become more knowledgeable of effective and appropriate caregiving practices utilized in early childhood.
- Willing to continue to further their education to obtain a CDA or Associate degree in early childhood
- Must be punctual and on time for work
- Perform other related duties as assigned and demonstrate the ability to be flexible and carry out duties.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Catholics must be willing to make a public profession of the faith. Non-Catholics must be willing to sign the Diocese of Phoenix Division of Education and Evangelization Profession of Faith form
- Assists with indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
- Effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff.
- Communicates in English at a level sufficient for successful job performance
- Effectively supervises and cares for students in their play and routines
- Meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Six months of childcare experience required; must be working towards or must have already received NAC, CDA, or CPC credentials or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Must participate in Safe Environment Training and sign the Code of Ethics Policy
- Fingerprinting and Mantoux test and any other requirements shall be obtained prior to employment according to the AZ department of Health Services, Diocese of Phoenix, and the AZ State Dept of Education.
