Summary of Position:
The AG teacher will conduct an instructional program according to the Board of Education requirements and the state program approval. The basic curriculum for each course shall be adhered to and include the following classes: Agriculture Education 1, Agriculture Education 2, Agricultural Mechanics, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Veterinary Medical Applications, Natural Resource/Wildlife Management (every other year) & Plant Science/Greenhouse Management (every other year)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies and materials.
  • Basic skills and abilities of students be developed in the classroom, agriculture mechanics shop & related labs.
  • FFA is an integral part of the instructional program. The teacher will serve as the advisor for the local chapter of FFA. Planning for and supporting students in district, regional, state, and national cooperative activities.
  • Supervise Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs for all students.
  • Assisting students in selecting a program that best fits their interest and abilities.
  • Maintain records and help students maintain needed records.
  • Locate training for students in work-based learning experiences.
  • Coordinate training experiences that meet instructional needs of students.
  • Perform supervisory visits during the school year and summer months.
  • Supervise the lab classroom for students working in supervised agricultural experience programs.
  • Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. required by the local, district, regional, state offices, promptly. Keep an accurate file copy of all records.
  • Assume a responsible role in public and professional partnerships by actively participating in civic, professional, agricultural and other community organizations. Keep the public informed on student and program progress and activities.
  • Work closely with the Agricultural Advisory Committee; serving as a liaison between the Advisory Committee and the district board and administration.
  • Participate in Agricultural Advisory Committee Meetings.
  • Utilize newsletters, social media, advertising, etc. to inform parents, staff and community of the Agricultural Programs activities progress.
  • Hold membership in professional organizations.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and in-services.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment. Includes proper arrangement of classroom & agriculture mechanics shop.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
  • Order new equipment and supplies as needed and budgeted.
  • Establish and monitor school procedures for keeping classroom, shop, lab classroom and grounds neat and attractive at all times.
  • Ensure that lab safety is taught and observed at all times. Safety items are available for student use and safety features have been installed and in working order on equipment.
  • Conduct an annual inventory of all tools, equipment and supplies and supply administration with the inventory documentation.
  • Supervise the students at off-campus activities such as conventions, contests, workshops, field trips, etc. associated with the agriculture program and the FFA.
  • Design and submit a Summer Program of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources to be approved by school administration and the Agriculture Advisory Committee.
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND; Must possess a current State of Colorado Teachers License or ability to obtain within first year of employment. Subject area endorsement in particular teaching area preferred.

Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Successful completion of student teaching at a recognized college or university, or two years of regular full time elementary level teaching experience.
Knowledge of and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of secondary level pupils.
  • Academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of secondary level pupils.
  • Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and educational trends and research findings pertaining to comprehensive secondary programming.
  • Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures.
  • Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the school population.
Ability to:
  • Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for pupils at the secondary level.
  • Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of pupils, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programs.
  • Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment.
  • Perform research and development activities pertaining to curriculum and instructional programs and innovative and creative pilot projects designed to enhance pupil educational opportunities and experiences.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions:
  • Work is performed in a standard classroom setting with some work being performed at various District properties and off-site locations.
  • Heavy lifting, bending, stooping, sitting, standing for long periods of time may be required.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
