Job Summary:

As a Tax Manager, Tax Automation & Innovation on our Specialized Tax Services - Automation & Innovation (TaxAI) team, you will apply your industry knowledge and experience as we work with companies to implement and optimize their tax reporting processes, data, and related tools. Tax-specific software used on these projects includes those offered by Thomson Reuters Onesource, Longview, Corptax, and Oracle. This role is a hands-on process, data, and technology focused position. A foundational knowledge of ASC 740 as well as US and multinational tax reporting challenges and requirements is a must.

The typical TaxAI project involves a review and analysis of existing company processes, data, and use of tax technology, including the use of Microsoft Excel and other complementary technologies and tools. Projects typically cover the areas of tax planning and forecasting, income tax provision, income tax compliance, and other areas such as indirect tax reporting. You will assist in preparing process manuals, maps, and checklists for the company staff relating to revised processes and use of technologies and tools.

As a Tax Manager, Tax Automation & Innovation, you will actively support the team’s efforts in terms of marketing, networking, and business development. You will be expected to work with other offices within the firm, assisting with enhancing and optimizing our internal tax processes and use of technologies. Other responsibilities may include training at client locations, providing support to clients post implementation, attending various conferences relating to TaxAI initiatives, and assisting with the preparation of proposals and fee estimates for projects.

Job Duties:

  • Tax Consulting
    • Qualifies viability of prospective clients or projects and identifies opportunities to expand current business
    • Understands the full picture of an external client or internal teams’ business and develops unique strategies aligned with business objectives
    • May lead internal and external executive level meetings that may include proposal delivery and solutions workshops
    • Understands work plans for tax consulting projects performed for one's clients
    • Assists in managing client expectations
    • May gather requirements, estimate fees, and prepare high level scoping and proposed solutions for internal projects and client proposals
    • Drafts clear and compelling proposals and business cases
    • Contributes to establishing internal standards and processes for the practice
    • Communicates complex technical items to target audience so that relevant issues are clearly understood
    • Gains exposure to architecting comprehensive solutions that address all facets of developing new business capabilities: a) Strategy, b) Organization/People, c) Processes/Controls, d) Technology/Enabling Tools
  • Engagement / Project Management
    • Demonstrates advanced project and process management skills; can effectively manage multiple large scale, complex projects at once
    • Gains exposure to setting strategy, establishing methodology, and determining the appropriate work plan for a given client or internal team by working with TaxAI leadership
    • Takes full ownership of risk mitigation and quality assurance, with support from leadership
    • Understands proper scoping and works with Tax Automation & Innovation team as appropriate to ensure client engagement terms are followed
    • Delivers project on time and within budget by utilizing project management and client service skills
    • Collaborates with internal teams and client to understand the big picture when developing and implementing projects
    • Communicates with internal teams and clients to gather pertinent information when applicable
    • Can construct a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative business case for client to justify the investment and commitment of management time coupled with financial and human resources
  • Client Service
    • Clearly identifies internal teams’ and client expectations at the beginning of a project or engagement
    • Communicates status to the internal team or client in line with the frequency agreed upon
    • Helps internal teams and clients navigate complex issues
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages TaxAI staff in completion of projects

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Technology, preferred
  • Graduate degree, preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience with technology or tax systems, required
  • ASC 740 tax accounting, consulting, or income tax compliance, preferred
  • Leadership experience, preferred

License / Certifications:

  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred
  • Alteryx, RPA, or other Analytics software certification, preferred

Software:

  • Experience with one or ideally multiple of the below software / tools preferred:
    • Systems such as Oracle, Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE, Longview, Corptax, or GoSystems
    • RPA tools ((UiPath, Blue Prism, PowerAutomate, Automation Anywhere, WinAutomation, etc.)
    • ETL tools (Power Query, Power Pivot, Tableau Prep, etc.)
    • Visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, required; advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Language:

  • N/A

  • Demonstrated ability to work well remotely
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills, including training/instruction with professionals at all levels
  • Executive presence and the ability to be primary contact for the client; prepare and conduct presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Strong client development/relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated sound decision-making skills
  • Ability to work within teams
  • A basic understanding of international tax concepts as they impact reporting in accordance with ASC 740
  • A basic knowledge and skill level in engagement management, including but not limited to, preparation of budgets, project plans, engagement letters, billing, and collection, etc.
  • Ability to complete projects independently
  • Ability to travel required

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

Range: $76,000 - $160,000
