Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide support for Operations and Maintenance of Linux systems (servers and VDIs) in a virtualized.
- Provide support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7 and above) including integration with Ansible.
- Prepare the Linux environment for migration to RHEL version.
- Develop and manage Linux baselines using Amazon Machine Images (AMIs).
- Perform updates to the configuration management tools and environment to support the new Operating.
- Installation and configuration of operating systems (UNIX and Linux) and associated supporting software such as virtualization components (OS, application, and management), peripheral and clustering drivers, performance monitoring agents.
- Perform COTS drivers’ software loads, upgrades, and updates.
- Perform ongoing monitoring of CPU utilization, memory utilization, swap space, disk usage, etc and take corrective action where Make performance-based recommendations for solutions.
- Perform trend analysis to predict behavior and identify potential problems.
- Perform system backups and periodic tests of backups to ensure success.
- Comply with CM policies as they relate to the system administration environment.
Job Requirements:
Required Education & Experience
- Prefer bachelor’s degree or higher
- Requires 3 or more years supporting and administering systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Requires 2 or more years of configuration management with Ansible and/or Satellite
- Prefer 2 or more years of experience supporting Linux desktops & workstations, any flavor of Linux, but GNOME experience will be given preference
- Prefer 1 or more years supporting web applications running on RHEL, with Postgres
- Prefer experience working with Hadoop, SLURM, or other distributed computing
- Prefer experience with VMware Virtual Desktops
- Prefer experience with Python
Certification Requirements
- Red Hat certifications preferred
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) certification are preferred
