The NGA College’s (NGC) Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) learning environment provides remote Windows desktops that users can access from the internet (e.g. work-from-home / austere locations) and from within the agency. The VDI will use Amazon AppStream 2.0 and Amazon WorkSpaces. Course applications are preinstalled and images are hardened to the latest DISA STIG, enabling students to gain access to secure compute resources for virtual learning.
Systems Administrator III will support the VDI solution will include basic system administration, managing and maintaining the VDI stack, and providing Tier 1 end-user support to both instructors and students.
• Perform full system upgrades and repairs (Linux and Windows) (frequency: monthly).
• Troubleshoot and repair operating system (OS) (frequency: daily as needed).
• Perform daily and weekly system backups and recovery.
• Maintain a log of system problems, errors, failures, and downtime metrics.
• Maintain hardware and software inventory lists.
• Troubleshoot network issues (frequency: daily as needed).
• Install software releases and upgrades on Linux and Windows (frequency: monthly).
• Manage all software licensing information (frequency: daily as needed).
• Evaluate and install security patches (IAVAs) (frequency: weekly as needed).
• Create and ensure operation of Active Directory and DNS (frequency: daily as needed).
• Create accounts and set up user specific access (frequency: daily as needed).
• Ensure customer log on (frequency: daily as needed).
• Maintain group policies and procedures (frequency: monthly).
• Set up and ensure operation of mount scripts for windows (frequency: daily as needed).
• Acquire system accreditations (frequency: monthly).
• Conduct audit and log reviews (frequency: weekly as needed).
• Ensure personnel comply with system security policies (frequency: daily as needed).
Requirements:• TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance required
• Knowledge of the LINUX operating system
•Experience with Windows Administration, for example:
-Active Directory
-Experience with hardening Windows instances per DISA STIG or equivalent
-PowerShell scripting
-Local Group Policy Updates/Management
-Users and group Management
-Windows File Shares
-Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or cloud architecture:
-Amazon EC2 (create and update Amazon Machine Images)
-Amazon S3 (configure bucket policies, Amazon VPC endpoints)
-AWS Lambda
-Amazon CloudWatch
-Amazon VPC (manage Security Groups, Subnets, etc.)
-AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)
