Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, applications, and servers. They will install hardware, software, and participate in research and development to continuously improve and keep up with the IT business needs of the organization. The System Administrator also actively resolves problems and issues with computer and server systems to limit work disruptions within the company. The Systems Administrator is responsible for researching and implementing new technologies, developing and following project plans.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain systems support for system software, hardware, and servers: test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve all related problems.
- Provide timely technical support for users and work with them to solve existing problems.
- Utilize best-in-class security protocols to protect existing and new infrastructure systems.
- Prepare and maintain written documentation of server and application environments.
- Regularly works with Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Helpdesk personnel, and users regarding system changes.
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
- Troubleshoot system hardware and system software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems.
- Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
- Assist with current and future capacity, storage, and database performance.
- Responsible for the research, recommendation, and implementation of new technologies.
- Providing timely communication and resolution of projects and issues escalated from the helpdesk team.
- Improve business unit synergies through technology systems integration.
- Support compatibility between systems.
- Frequent reviewing of all local and cloud hosted system access privileges.
- Working to automate repetitive system administration jobs.
- Outlining and implementing authentication measures to increase security but also create SSO environments to ease user authentication challenges.
- Operation and maintenance of Telecommunications (Frafos, Uniteme), Printing (PaperCut), and System security.
- Operation and maintenance of Room scheduling (25Live), Service Management (TeamDynamix), and Virtual applications (AppStream).
- Operation and maintenance of access control and video surveillance (Genetec).
- Maintain system backups and file restoration.
- Maintain and document identity lifecycle.
- Product knowledge: Server OS: Windows, Linux; Directory: Active Directory, MS Entra, Google; Languages: UNIX shells, Python, Windows Powershell; Enterprise Storage/Backup: CommVault, AWS S3; Cloud: AWS, Google, Microsoft; Telecommunications.
- Familiarity with network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with technical systems.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Strong knowledge of authentication, MS MFA and MS SSO.
- Ability to interpret and analyze information for effective decision making.
- Attention to detail for accurately preparing and maintaining accurate records, correspondence, administer test, and coordinate information.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to deal effectively with a variety of situations and constituents.
- Ability to take initiative, set goals, prioritize and organize job tasks and workload in order to meet deadlines, ability to complete work in a timely manner and communicate progress routinely.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in technical computer-related position, demonstrating the ability to understand enterprise network infrastructure on a commercial or educational campus, and a demonstrated ability to master a complex multi-platform environment, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance as well as climb ladders and perform overhead work. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
