Position Summary:
This role involves conducting various studies, including distribution modeling, load studies, voltage drop analysis, capacitor placement, load balancing, feeder optimization, and fault current analysis within a distribution power system. Emphasis is placed on distribution modeling and designing integrated microgrids, particularly those incorporating renewable energy and distributed generation. Collaborating with engineering and operations teams is essential for estimating and designing capital upgrade projects, and practical field experience is a prerequisite for the position.
Job Function:
- The Planning Engineer is responsible for annual Five-Year Annual Service Plan (ASP) updates. The ASP includes a five-year capital improvement plan, load balance, feeder optimization, fault current analysis, and periodic studies. The ASP also includes the System Inventory and Valuation.
- Responsible for Coordination Studies, management, and implementation of protection schemes at feeder and substation level equipment.
- Capable of monitoring and managing the efficient utilization of microgrids integrated with the distribution system, establishing standards, and reporting results of renewable energy and distributed generation.
- Organize semi-annual and periodic presentations to provide updates on the distribution system and planned upgrades.
- Manage the construction and record unit for overhead and underground assemblies.
- Some overnight travel is expected.

Experience/Education:
- Electrical Engineer (B.S. Electrical Engineering) or Professional Engineer with System Planning Experience
- Familiar with Milsoft WindMil Engineering Analysis software or similar Engineering Analysis modeling software
- Familiar with Milsoft LightTable TCC Analysis software or similar software for coordination analysis
- Trained in ESRI, utility staking software, and Microsoft Project software.
- Experience with SCADA systems for collecting and analyzing data for modeling software
- Experience with microgrids with both renewable and distributed generation
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
- Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License, pass Drug Screening, and pass background screening.
