Summary
Supports a variety of functions to help maintain server, network, information security, and database systems essential for carrying out the responsibilities and daily activities of the Board. With extensive supervision, helps to solve client system and application issues. Works to stays up to date on new technologies, security standards, and other applicable best practices related to server, network, database administration, and information security.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the installation, modification, enhancement, and/or management of systems and network resources to meet business requirements. This includes performing simple system maintenance to guarantee systems function with limited interruption.
- Contributes to ensuring that technology solutions align with business needs and software requirements.
- Contributes to the diagnosis of hardware and software problems and in resolving violations as they occur.
- Seeks to develop knowledge of Federal policies and guidelines that govern the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and information management. Researches IT security trends, system security standards, best practices, preventative measures, and disaster recovery processes to provide recommendations. May develop system access profiles based on Board security standards.
- Helps to maintain the security posture of systems through implementation of Board standards and industry best practices.
- With extensive guidance, provides system and application support and consulting to clients. This may include resolving customer support issues by taking into account the Board's and division's technology standards.
- Assists in ensuring customer issues are resolved and enhances infrastructure and security systems with a bias toward customer experience.
- Assists with the documentation and application of technical and administrative direction to identify functional characteristics of a system, control any changes to such characteristics, and support audits of systems, reports, results, and/or components to verify compliance.
- Helps provide guidance on the adoption of new technologies and tools.
- Assists more senior staff with researching technology available in the market including components of cloud computing and one or more cloud technology platforms, in addition to on-premises computing technology, to support evaluating business requirements and determine which tools and services are best fit for a specific purpose. Helps to provide recommendations based on research, including identifying areas for improvement.
- Assists in the development of technical documentation for systems and projects to provide direction, guidance, or instruction and/or summarize complex data and information in a succinct and compelling manner.

Position Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field and one year of experience. Must have foundational knowledge in one or more of the following areas: computer networking, cloud computing, disaster recovery, data warehouse architecture, programming/scripting languages, change management principles, automation, computing, networking, and database systems. Must be able to work effectively with more senior staff. Must be able to support more senior staff with user technical support, hardware and software support, technical problem solving, software development, technology evaluation, and information security.
Candidates should have experience assisting or leading the installation, modification, enhancement, and/or management of systems and network resources to meet business requirements. Candidates should also have experience working with a team to solve issues and prevent outages, ensuring alignment with business and security needs, and ability to develop technical documentation and summarize complex data and information in a succinct and compelling manner. A writing sample may be required.
The System Administrator position will serve on the IT Compute and Storage Infrastructure team responsible for supporting and innovating the offerings of the Board IT Linux platform, enterprise storage, and data analytics systems. Preferred qualifications include Red Hat and/or NetApp certifications, experience with Rubrik Enterprise Data Protection, Agile or DevOps related certifications, experience with automation tools (Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting languages (Bash, Python), experience with technology compliance frameworks (SOX, FISMA, etc) and working in highly secured environments, as well as experience leading projects and technology upgrades and supporting production environments.
US Citizenship is required.
This position is hybrid, requiring a combination of telework and in-office presence in Washington, DC.
